Merry Christmas, Happy Hannuka, Happy Kwanza

Post  locomotion on Thu Dec 24, 2009 1:34 pm

To all my friends here on the forum,

I want to wish you all a very Merry holiday season. As a damn Yankee, I'm so uplifted by the snow that we are getting right now. It's a great day.

Loco

Merry Christmas to you as well santa How is your dd doing? My dd tore her ACL in our last game against TFC so she is going to have to have surgery and be out of commission until probably september. I am going crazy with no soccer. How do you handle it?

Very difficult. My DD was having a great keeper camp in July and bam, clean, full break of her finger at the joint. Lucky we were able to get her into a hand specialist the next day and surgery 2 days later. Given the type of break, if we hadn't moved quicly, she might have lost some function in that finger/hand. With the pins/pain meds for awhile, not really able to do much. She went to all practices and tournaments with her team. She played a little on the field after her pins were out. This was very important as she was able to bond with her team even though she had barely played with them. While not the best to be the cheering squad, better than sitting at home. As a keeper, watching the new girls closely and listening to the coaches on the bench did help her to really get to know the girls and get to know what the coaches needed. I know your injury is a much bigger deal with longer healing time. But do your best to stay appropriately connected. Don't try to return too quickly. Above all, do all your pt/stay as fit as possible. Once the surgical site is healed, walking, then jogging, and then running in chest deep water is great. If you don't have access to a facility with a jogging pool, try the Landry Center at Baylor Medical Center Dallas. Your ortho can write a 3 month membership prescription.

Good luck and stay fit.

Thank you. Haven't been around much lately.

My DD is doing fine. She was released to play one week ago. She has allot of catching up to do. She didn't get to try out for the soccer team at school, so she became the JV2 team manager. Now that she is released she will practice with NTX United, and her JV2 team. I suspect that she will start playing with the JV2 team somewhere around the first or second week of Feb. She has her first HS practice Wednesday and her first NTX United practice on Wednesday as well.

She has been very good about working out since she was authorized to do so by the doc. She exceeded every goal set up by the physical therapist. The doc said that her knee is very strong again, but she still has to wear a brace during play for the next 12-18 months. It's a damn long road back.

It's been torture for me to not see her out there. Less so since I could see the rest of my NTX United girls out there. I will be so happy to see her take the field again for the first time though.

Keep your chin up momma, she'll be back, if she wants to.
