Team Release

Post  freerefill on Tue Feb 16, 2010 4:08 pm

When is the earliest you can start training and guest playing with other teams? We are currently with a 98G team and we are looking for other options. What do I have to do? When do I have to do it? Where do I have to go? I would really appreciate the help.

Others can provide better guidance then I can.
My thought is you can start guest playing at any time. However, you MUST have your present coach sign your guest player release form.
You can have private lessons at any time.
However, to attend another competitive team's training...I do not thin k that is allowed until June 1st.

Release

Post  Bluemonster on Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:55 pm

You can get a release into the recreational pool until 4/1. You can petition North Texas Soccer once that is done for a transfer to another competitive team until 4/1. Start with Ronda at North Texas but you will likely need either your current coach's sign off or a compelling hardship case to get traction here. You can train with any non-select coach at will though courtesy dictates letting your current coach know. June 1 you can train with anyone but to guest play you need a release

With a practice release signed by your coach you could practice with another team this week. However, I wouldn't advise it since your dd probably wouldn't see much playing time with your current team in the Spring. You could wait until the Spring Season (April 10th) is over and ask for a practice release but in doing so you need to be prepared to leave since most coaches don't appreciate this and won't want you back.
Since rosters are frozen for State Cup on April 1st you could also go to North Texas and get a recreational release before April 1st but you would not be able to play in your April 10th league game. You would however then be able to attend any teams practice and guest play in Spring tournaments with any team with North Texas signature.

Any training (private or regular) with a coach afiliated with any club in any way requires a practice release.

There are people who provide private training who are not affiliated with clubs.

Releases

Most, but not all, strictly academy or keeper coaches are 1099 contractors. As such they are not "affiliated" with any club as they are not an employee. I would still, however , clear it with your existing coach

Yes get the coach to sign off first. Its hard to disprove a coach's affiliation with a club - they don't have to have a current team to be involved with a club. If they have participated in any event with a club (camps, speed training, indoor games) during the current soccer season you could have issues. If your not sure call NTX its better to get there approval upfront rather having to prove your case after the fact.

You can get a recreational release now and anytime up to 4/1 which allows you to practice and play in tournaments with any competitive team without your coaches signature. Or play in rec leagues. If you do this, will not be allowed to play the Competitive Spring league play with any team including your current team. The advantage here is that you can try out a number of teams and play in April - June tournaments before committing again in July.
You can petition NTX for a full competitive release if your dd is playing significantly less than 50%. I "think" however that rosters were locked for the Spring at the end of Jan meaning no team could add you even if you got a full release. So you might check that . If that is true, no point in trying to get the competitive release.
Good luck. We have been through some tough seasons with our dd and there is no right answer. Only the one that works for you and your dd. In our case we stuck out the Spring season but got our rec release (season ended 3/30) by 4/1 and moved on.

Can a coach deny you a release? If so, how does this affect ODP?

No. He can deny a transfer to another select team but not a release to rec. It does not effect ODP at all.

I'll have to look at the website to be certain, but I believe NTSSA doesn't allow a release to rec after 4/1. So as far as coach approval, it is a moot point.

Where did you get less than 50%? In LHCL it's less than 10 minutes a half.

But if the coach does not or can't after April 1st then they don't have to sign guest player or practice permission forms either. True???
So point is if you are thinking of looking for a new team and you don't want to have your hands tied and be at the mercy of the coach/club then get a release before April 1st.
