    At The Quarter Turn

Post  crackin' up on Sat Oct 17, 2009 10:55 pm

So here we go: we're at the quarter turn and no doubt having reviewed the previous 6 weeks of postings, there are certainly some surprises - both good and bad. So get the fingers movin' and come out of early hibernation. At the quarter mark of the new season, who are the surprises, who are the disappointments, who's grabbing your attention... Let's revisit the early predictions and compare.

ok after looking again, here are my suprises in D1:

    - mustangs at #3 (pleasant surprise but hasn't even touched hard teams yet)
    - d'feeters #7 (somehow they keep finding a way)
    - grubb #10(disappointing; inconsisitent)
    - meja #12 (don't know much about them, but have rebounded from the early losses)
    - fcd east #16 / aztecs #17 / tx mustangs #19 (all still winless; this surprises me alot)

    D3:
    - rudd #3 (definitely a downer; heard there's some turmoil)
    - ntx #4 (much higher than expected; nice)
    - sparta #8 (after all the talk, they're dwelling in the requalifying/relegation zone)
    - tx spirit #9 (thought you would be in upper half; hope it turns for ya)

good luck to all in the 2nd quarter

    Girls U11 Division I

1: DALLAS TEXANS DALLAS 99 - On track
    2: STING 99 - On track
3: MUSTANGS FC 99 - We get a chance to prove ourselves over the next 4...Go Mustangs!! Very Happy
4: STING ROYAL 99 - On track with a slight slip to a good Sting West Murin team...er Solar Blue Bones...they've been a good team for a long time and have had many close games with Audrey over the last couple of years.
5: SOLAR RED 99-COLVIN -On track...only loss is to Sting and their wins have been very impressive thus far
6: SOLAR 99 -I'm not sure what to say about the tie with Mustangs-Henderson. I just watched Meja handle Hendy in a competitive game...otherwise playing as expected.
    7: D'FEETERS 99 -About where everyone said they'd be.
8: TFC 99 -About where everyone said they'd be.
9: SOLAR BLUE 99 -BONES -Playing well and moving up.
10: FC DALLAS 99 -Not sure what's going on here...could Grubb be putting too much pressure on them? I've heard rumors but they're probably about 4th generation rumors so I take no stock in them.
11: DALLAS TEXANS NORTH 99 -Big win over TFC but otherwise disappointing results so far...below my expectations. They have a very solid team and I'm not sure why they aren't winning more.
12: MEJA BLUE 99 -Great team, parents & coaches (and club!)...a real family...they seem to be picking it up after the meat grinder they went through early...they have a chance for 12 points in the next 4 games. If they can, oh what a statement that would be.
13: DALLAS TEXANS RED DALLAS 99 -About where everyone said they'd be.
14: FW FC WHITE 99 -They have done as well as can be expected against some tough competition...maybe better than expected.
15: REVOLUTION PREMIER 99-ZUAZUA -They're tough...I can't tell anything about this team and we played them in QT. Sometimes they are unbelievable but sometimes they just don't show too well.
16: FC DALLAS EAST 99 -Wow, one of the toughest schedules of the fall...look for a big rebound in the Spring. If they can develop just a little bit more, then watch out. If not, they'll have to settle for D2 next season.
17: LADY AZTECS FC 99 -Tough luck for LA so far...because they've played well for all but 1 half this season...They need a big win to turn the corner and to gain some confidence...if Eastside is ghetto, and since I am Eastside, then I guess we'll just have to go ghetto on they asses (GGOTA).
18: ODYSSEY WHITE 99 -Need to get it going or D3 will be in their future.
19: TX MUSTANGS 99-HENDERSON -Tough schedule thus far but they haven't won the games they should have either. They have too many good players to stay at 19 for long.
20: GENESIS ELITE 99-HIGDON -They have a chance to get things right in the next 4 games but they are heading towards D3 if they don't get it turned around quickly.

    Girls U11 Division III
1: LIVERPOOL 99 -Good team and proving it.
2: FC DALLAS RED SOUTH 99-RUDD -playing good but not as good as expected.
3: STING BLUE 99 -They seem to play extremely well at times and then have hiccups. I know some of these players well and they have a lot of potential. They should be right there at the end to battle for the D2 promotion.
4: FC DALLAS NORTH 99 -They are starting to get going but will have much to prove if they are going to figure in the battle for D2.
5: NTX UNITED 99 -Solid team but probably solidly in D3 for next season...with 4 teams having to re-qualify they will probably stay inside the bubble all season...a win against a top team though could change my mind quickly...these girls have a strong team.
6: SPARTA FC 99 -Good win against FCD North but downhill from there. Sparta has a good team though and should
7: SOLAR WHITE 99 -Another strong team just like NTX U but hey they've beaten NTX U this season so...
8: POLARIS 99 -Not sure if they're on their way up or down.
9: TX SPIRIT 99 -Surprised they are this low but you have to score to win and they haven't been much of scoring threat the last couple of season.
10: LIVERPOOL RED 99 -Sorry to say but they are as expected so far.

Thanks for the hit but who are the hard teams? LOL I thought they all were. And when do the hard teams start playing against other hard teams? Hell when do you get ranked as a hard team? What does it take? Just wondering...Just laughing wondering why it's a surprise that my Stangs are in 3rd. We are right where we should be. If I didn't really think we would or should be top 5 then I would have packed my dd's bag and we would have been headed toward one of the "hard teams". We are going into a good part of our schedule now based off of the hard teams I guess but don't be surprised when the Stangs pull off some good hard wins.

DUDE, no offense meant your way or towards your 'stangs. I think your team has played it's schedule and done well. In fact, I AM rather impressed. But as the schedule has played out, I don't think you've played anyone yet that is currently in the top 10. That is an advantage because it allows teams as yours and others to have an early leg up and gain much valued and need points early...which is a huge advantage an opportunity.

It's like going to college and getting a low GPA the first 2-3 semesters. It's very hard, and it takes longer at that point to raise that GPA to the needed mark. Whereas if you can gain the advantage early, it's harder to decrease that GPA because the averages are in your favor.

That being said, other teams, not having a lighter front end schedule have a much harder road to make-up vs. teams that have some easier courses early. You have a cushion to work with because you've played a light schedule as current standings would indicate. And no, not all the teams in D1 are hard. We would all be kidding ourselves to think so. It will balance out yes. You have been fortunate to have what you have and props to you for taking care of business!!

I will eagerly be watching your remaining fall and certainly your spring. best of luck Dude!

    Crack,

Thanks man I appreciate you and your post. I wasn't questioning you or the post. I think your post is a good one. My point really was to get others that question and are surprised that the Stangs are doing well to look back not long back but just to the last SDL season and the past tournaments from then. I believe we only lost one game last SDL and tournament wise, we tied Sting Audrey, lost to Flanny 1 to 0 twice, tied Solar Red, beat Solar Red this year in a good game, beat Grubb in SDL last year, Grubb beat us this year in a good game, etc. We played two tournaments where we didn't show well but it was expected because we were dealing with a little adversity but we used it and learned from it. There has been little movement with players going to other teams. We have been beat in close games to some of these same teams as well but we have been in the mix the whole time. Our core group is just as good any top team and that alone will keep us in most games. No stars here just girls who work their butt off and show up to play, expect to win, and having fun doing it. So who are we proving ourselves to? Just really trying to get to the real reason some don't believe.

Call it like you see it....I'd like to know. Just checking to see if there are any new reasons. We already heard

    1. Soccer ain't a track meet
    2. They play kickball
    3. They only have speed
    4. They only play long ball (new term for kickball I think)
    5. Their midfield kills them
    6. The coach only wants kids with speed
    7. Their coach doesn't teach skill
    8. They can't play possession ball
    9. Sooner or later it's gonna catch up with them (whatever that means lol)
    10. ??? some one please give me the 10th reason Laughing

    4. They only play long ball (new term for kickball I think)
    5. Their midfield kills them
    6. The coach only wants kids with speed
    7. Their coach doesn't teach skill
    8. They can't play possession ball
    9. Sooner or later it's gonna catch up with them (whatever that means lol)
    10. ??? some one please give me the 10th reason Laughing

Thanks for the props for our girls as well. Now go get those last 12 points of the fall. cheers

    10. We are jealous you are winning

    That's classic...thanks for that!

Dude...well to be honest, #10 recently would be that "they haven't played any tough teams yet"...but you basically addressed that in your preamble to the list... Laughing

Really past the 1/3 mark after Thursday. Seen some great soccer and interesting results thus far. Looks like most of the teams are starting to settle in where they belong, with a handful happy to have the roughest part of the schedule out of the way early. The fight for 8 thru 12 should be very, very interesting as the spring rolls around. There are HUGE disparities in the scheduling for fall vs. spring and it is important in looking at these standings and projecting forward who has played who and what games are yet to be played.

    D1 Analysis

    1. DALLAS TEXANS 99--what else can you say. 40 for, 2 against...Hendy and FWFC should let everyone in on the secret as to how they scored.
    2. STING 99--30 points after 10 games is what we all expected. Everyone should show up for "THE SHOWDOWN" whenever it is played.
    3. SOLAR RED 99--one loss to Flanny, almost flawless the rest of the way. Will battle Stavrou for that 3rd spot.
    4. MUSTANGS FC 99--as stated previously, has played one of the three softest schedules so far. We will see where they stand after their next 4 games, as they play 3 of the top 5 teams(Texans, Solar 99 and Royal). But you can only beat the teams on the schedule and they have. Nice job Geno and Dude's dd's.
    5. STING ROYAL 99--the Bones loss is not looking quite like the upset that all thought in week 1. However, this team has rebounded and have settled in right where they belong. Plays 3 more top 10's out of next 4.
    6. SOLAR 99--only in this spot because they can't ever get the Odyssey game played. Realistically, adding those 3 points, they are in the 4 spot which is right around where they should stay all year.
    7. SOLAR BLUE 99--proving that the week 1 QT blunder was just that. These girls will have played the toughest fall schedule having faced all 7 of the top ranked teams, with only one game against the bottom 10. If they stay top 10 after fall, spring looks promising.
    8. D'FEETERS 99--has played only one top 10 team at this point like many of the others at the top, so positioning is difficult to gauge. However, they have won all of the games they should have, albeit very close ones. The next three are against teams battling with them for those bottom few D1 spots, and should tell us alot.
    9. TFC 99--their loss to DT North and two ties are sketchy. Should have more than 11 with the schedule they've played. Only gets tougher. Two of last three vs. Mustangs and Royal. Should finish with 14 at the break.
    10. FC DALLAS 99--the Revolution loss alone has to be a disappointment, but in this format those games could happen. On any given Saturday, it's just that they are the only top 6 team it has happened to. Should get 9 or 10 more points to jump up, but played the second easiest schedule of the fall, having played only two top 10 teams.
    11. DALLAS TEXANS NORTH 99--two very nice wins, but one bad tie stand out so far. Next two games vs. Meja and Feet will tell alot about D1 chances. They are must wins or likely will finish fall with only 7 points. Tough to bounce back from that.
    12. MEJA BLUE 99--beat the two they should have and lost to the four you would expect. Could win the next 4 and jump to 18 points for the fall...would be a HUGE statement. Very impressive so far. Look like they belong.
    13. DALLAS TEXANS RED 99--a disappointing fall after the exciting week 1 qualifying and top 10 seed. Only have 5 points and don't look to be getting anymore this fall. The two losses to lower ranked teams has stung. Should be solid, middle of the pack D2 team.
    14. FWFC WHITE 99--one of the scrappiest teams in league play, these dd's bring their lunchbox every game. Nice win over DT Red and nice tie vs. Mustangs. Should be very excited to see spring get here, after playing third toughest fall schedule. Points will come. Solid, maybe upper tier D2 team.
    15. REVOLUTION 99--what a signature win vs. Grubb. What else can you say. They have played the toughest schedule through 7 games. Last three should be competitive for these girls. Very physical, always exciting brand of soccer. Proving that they belong every week.
    16. FC DALLAS EAST 99--second toughest fall schedule behind Solar Blue. Lost three 1 goal games and two ties. Unfortunately, only 2 points to show for it and unlikely to have anymore this fall. Fortunately, the spring schedule will be alot more friendly.
    17. LADY AZTECS 99--same story as above. Tough fall schedule only netting two ties...2 points. Needs to beat Hendy tomorrow or will likely finish the fall with 2 points as well. Virtually impossible to climb to D1 from there. I certainly will not comment on whether that meets their expectations or not...will let my lady friend, Smarty, handle that one.
    18. TX MUSTANGS 99--came out of the box strong and got their only point. WOW. It has been downhill from there. Schedule is much more manageable the rest of the way. Expect some points. Should avoid the bottom 2 spots.
    19. ODYSSEY WHITE 99--trying to keep head above water. Will be difficult to get many points but will should sneak a few in here in there. Likely on the D3 train.
    20. GENESIS ELITE 99--outscored 27-2 so far. Likely happy to be in D1 and getting the experience, but does come at a high price. Also could sneak in a few points against comparably ranked teams, just don't know who those might be.
