Post by Hook It on 06/10/12, 06:56 pm

My DD told me today that one of her friend's 01 LHGCL team this morning was was given a YELLOW CARD, to the entire team and the game was stopped 8min early because the coach, parents, and players would not stop complaining about a foul that was called....

I've seen coaches kicked out, but never had a game stopped and the entire team Yellow carded?

Absolutely. Although, it's idiotic officiating and doesn't really mean much.

Correction: I may be reading your question incorrectly. Do you mean the entire team received a single yellow card? That cannot be done. Everyone on the field, however, could be given individual yellow cards for dissent. That's what it sounds like the ref did.

Wow! That would suck for the team managers! Especially for the manager of the non-offending team. Of course if the manager of the offending team was one of the parents on the sideline that couldn't keep a lid on their complaining... kharma...

3. Yellow/Red Card Report: In the event any cards, send-offs, or cautions occur,
both teams are required to send a Yellow/Red Card Report completely filled out
to their age division commissioner within forty-eight (48) hours of the completion
of a game. The only exception to this rule is for Saturday games. Yellow/Red
Card Reports for Saturday games can be turned in by 5:00 PM on the following
Monday. If any team fails to send their Yellow/Red Card Report to the age
division commissioner within the designated time period, that team may receive a
$50.00 fine.

Tre-interestant....NTXSOCCER really is crazy. I spoke with the dad tonight and he said it was like everyone including the girls just lost control of their emotions when the coach did not stop yelling even after the play resumed....

it was kinda weird to hear him say that they were happy the ref stopped the game. Not sure that is what I would want as an example for my kids.

Sounds to me like the ref went right for the jugular. Certainly he could have taken steps before issuing the whole team yellow cards? Ejecting the coach or parents from the sideline seems like a good start. And ending the game 8 minutes early? Sounds like he didn't have very good control of the game at all.

If true, this would be an excellent example of a ref who probably shouldn't be reffing. Showing cards is supposed to help the ref gain or regain control of the game by telling the players that they are behaving outside of the laws of the game.

When you show all of the cards at the same time it kind of ruins the opportunity for the players to learn from the example.

Bet the 11-year-old friend got the story half-right. The game was abandoned, sure, but the card thing is ridiculous because only players get cards and I doubt the ref showed a card to each player.

Nevertheless, a referee legend is born.

The players on the field can be carded but the people on the sidelines cannot. The referee can show the people on the sideline the card as a symbol but it doesn't mean anything to them. The only thing a referee can do to the people off the field is eject them and stop the game as everyone waits for the offenders to be escorted off the field. That doesn't require a card though.

This would be an exciting hearing to attend.

The foul resulted in the winning goal and the game was stopped shortly after that.

No game was not abandoned.... after the ref stopped the game the offending coach left the field with no meeting with the players or parents.

You are right, seems like it was a lose-lose for both sides to a point because 8-10 min of playing time was lost and what a poor example for those kids! Maybe just ejecting the coach first would have been better to first try and calm thing down.

This doesn't make sense. If the game was stopped 8 minutes early admidst screaming coaches and players that means the ref abandoned the game. Given his/her post history, it's more likely "Hook It" mangled the story than the 11-year-old.

Can anyone confirm which game this was? There was a lot of yelling going on in the 01 game behind ours, but we were told the coach was tossed. We did see some angry parents on the way to the parking lot having a little "chat"... Shocked
