Refrain - Refrain from 'Childish' comments - a Gift for Christmas Empty Refrain from 'Childish' comments - a Gift for Christmas

Post by PositiveSoccer6 05/12/12, 09:15 am

There is a small subset of Board Posters who cannot resist posting a negative comment, a non-complementary remark, a 'snide remark' or a Childish Comment which does not add any value to the purpose of this Board - or a post.

Here's an idea to help these people - let's ask them to REFRAIN - to "Stop and THINK" before they hit the SEND button. For these people: How about seeing if you can CONTRIBUTE to the board and not allow your school-boy/girl impetus to prevail. After all, you should be a parent not a child to post here.

So, if we see a "Snide Comment" - let's just respond with a single word:- "REFRAIN" to indicate our disapproval as fellow board members.

Be a Builder! Or stay off the site!

Thanks and Merry Christmas! Make it Positive.

Frankly these kind of posts are from people who have little debate skill, offend easy and wanted to know why cant we read the chapter and answer the questions at the end rather then get into a wrangling of ideas that must be defended. But the world needs all kinds. Refrain.

And take the entertainment value out of this board??? Are you kidding?? Please ignore this advice and continue to be psycho, because I need more material for the script I'm writing...the new reality TV show, "Soccer Moms of North Texas."

I want to know which 'snide remark' made PositiveSoccer6 start this string. I kinda hope it was one of mine.

PositiveSoccer6 - Snide comments make the posts more enjoyable for the reader. This board would be as dry as toast if it wasn't for those nasty little slights. Now... can you please give us examples of the snide comments that were so offensive? (I don't want to miss anything funny.)

..OP forgot to include 'mean spirited'.

The only real cure from this addiction and insanity is an intervention and a complete escape from the soccer asylum. Unfortunatley none of our friends and family care enough to save us.

Those who escape are the lucky ones, albeit scarred for life.

I think you need more than 30 posts to start trying implement policy and claim of being a builder. If anything, I think it is a little cocky.

I think the OP wants us to sing?

A refrain (from Vulgar Latin refringere, "to repeat", and later from Old French refraindre) is the line or lines that are repeated in music or in verse; the "chorus" of a song. Poetic fixed forms that feature refrains include the villanelle, the virelay, and the sestina.

The use of refrains is particularly associated with where the verse-chorus-verse song structure typically places a refrain in almost every song. The refrain or chorus often sharply contrasts the verse melodically, rhythmically, and harmonically, and assumes a higher level of dynamics and activity, often with added instrumentation. Chorus form, or strophic form, is a sectional and/or additive way of structuring a piece of music based on the repetition of one formal section or block played repeatedly. See also verse-chorus form.

In music, a refrain has two parts: the lyrics of the song, and the melody. Sometimes refrains vary their words slightly when repeated; recognisability is given to the refrain by the fact that it is always sung to the same tune, and the rhymes, if present, are preserved despite the variations of the words. Such a refrain is featured in "The Star-Spangled Banner," which contains a refrain which is introduced by a different phrase in each verse, but which always ends:

O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
A similar refrain is found in the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," which affirms in successive verses that "Our God," or "His Truth." is "marching on."

Refrains usually, but not always, come at the end of the verse. Some songs, especially ballads, incorporate refrains into each verse. For example, one version of the traditional ballad The Cruel Sister includes a refrain mid-verse:

There lived a lady by the North Sea shore,
Lay the bent to the bonny broom
Two daughters were the babes she bore.
Fa la la la la la la la la.
As one grew bright as is the sun,
Lay the bent to the bonny broom
So coal black grew the other one.
Fa la la la la la la la.
