SICK OF IT.

No doubt. Even if it is not the Clubs hosting the tournaments who are pocketing all the profits, what remains constant is the big hole in all of OUR pockets. Maybe we should all lobby with our coaches/managers to only target tournaments this time of year that are either out of town in a dry city, or where the venue has at least a number of turf fields that tend to require less 'drying out' time... I'm sure these local cities can find other sources of field related revenue...

why do the touraments get to keep any of the money? If they were held responsible to pay us all our money back then maybe they would make sure games get played. But since there is no money taken out of their pockets, they don't really care. I hate that attitude. How do they have rights to do that? They should be out advertising fees etc...that should be their risk and not ours. I say we do a million man march....

Funky you agree to the terms when your team signs up for the tournament. Best way to protest is to not sign up for the tournaments. I like the idea of inter club friendlies in place of tournaments, that would save a lot of parents $$$

I just wanted to chime in here and shed some light on the "up-front" expenses for a tournament.. These are items you cannot typically recover whether the tournament goes off or not..
    - T-shirts: gotta have em printed and ready to go before the tourney and that doesn't happen overnight.. several thousands of dollars
    - Got Soccer scheduling costs - $10 per team in tourney.. $2,200 in this case
-Trophies - gotta buy them before tourney. Argument can be made that you can hold on to them and just buy new name plates for the next tourney... but they may not want to.
    - Golf cart / Tent rentals - may be able to get some back, but gotta have em ready for tourney
    - Referee assignor - The assignors spend LOTS of time pre tournament scheduling and getting the crews all worked out before the big day. Must be paid for their time.
-Referees- Did any games go off? if so referees were paid and field rental costs may have been as well.

anyway. I gree that the 50% refund is baloney, and i'm not sure where that standard came from... but it is there in all the tournaments rules. The Legacy Cup will attempt to give back more than that ( at least thats what they imply). A club or association stands to make way more money from a tournament that actually plays, rather than one that doesn't, so trust me they don't want to cancel any more than you want to not play...

yes it stinks, but there are way more up front costs than advertising...

Ok here's a idea for u!!!!!! 1. Dont make tee shirts 2. Why do u need tents this time of year? 3. If I don't do my job I don't get paid sooooo refs should not either no brainer 4. Don't do trophys this isn't pee wee have a general plack made. 5. Parents pay enough for this so do we really care about shirts and trophys and makeing sure the refs are comphy it's fine if we play it's another thing if we are getting robed blind.....just a shot a common sense maybe I'm the minority.

In looking at the above, I'd guess it takes about 10-18 (depending on fee) teams to pay for most of that (shirts and trophies might bump that up considerably).

I'd totally agree with the no trophies - my attic is full of them and to my recollection, our teams never entered a tournament to win one (that was often the goal, but wasn't the incentive - with the lone exception of myself tanking a tennis tournament because second place received a really cool bag rather than a tiny first place trophy). Get someone else to sell the shirts (ask for a percentage of the profits) - in Houston, a third-party sold shirts with team pictures on them, they were really nice and the did well.

Here's what we did when my son was U9-U10 - it was brilliant. The top team (probably in the nation) for '98s invited all the top '97s to a scrimmage league. This was held every Saturday at the outdoor field at Soccer Spectrum. Since all the top teams were invited, most (exception of one) joined. There was one official, 'soft offsides' - it was called - but you were allowed to finish the play, no score kept (okay, that didn't work too well), pks after the games (regardless of score). It was unbelievable competion and very fun. Given it was Saturday (big football day) - many teams had subs and many kids played multiple games. Great way for teams to meet each other and kids to experience different coaches/teams. The only thing the coordinator (current Solar director) had to do was find a facility, hire a referee, solicit teams, get them to sign a waiver, setup a schedule. It was around $800, but was so selective that it was well worth it. There would be a lot of coaches NOT interested in this, IMO, as there are Sat and Sun alternatives now and the prospect of losing players from exposure to other teams scares 'em off. There was a big 'hubub' around teams winning against teams playing short (and scores posted on Turfmonster), nothing new there!

I often wonder if you had access to a field or fields, and just had it open every Sunday at 1:00-4:00, if you could get teams to show up to scrimmage (if it were a consistent 4-6 teams, it could go on for awhile). If it were uneven, you could have practice and then play the winner. This forum could determine matchups or coaches could call each other to set them up. Everyone's schedule would be consistent and the competition could be somewhat controlled.

Someone just posted on another thread that GLASA has already closed their fields for this coming weekend. This includes Chinn Chapel, Gerault, Railroad and Lake Park. The email came from the GLASA General Manager. I believe the posting is in the 99G section.

    Tournament Cancellation Insurance

The WAGS Tournament has once again purchased a Tournament Event Cancellation Insurance Policy through Lloyds of London. This policy AUTOMATICALLY covers all WAGS Tournament accepted teams for the application fee in case of cancellation due to inclement weather.

If they really wanted to make sure they did the right thing they could purchase Tournament Cancellation Insurance in which case the teams are reimbursed the entry fee while it does not cover travel cost it does cover team expenses for registration.

There is also the following: for an average tournament the cost is about 2,000 to 2,500 to cover teams registration cost.

Drove by Chinn Chapel today and with the exception of the coffin corner near the street where the runoff drain is, the fields look great.

    1) This tournament will be cancelled.
    2) Club Soccer teams will continue to waste money by signing up for tournaments in January (excluding those played in AZ or Vegas). We should save our money, rent a field and hold friendlies.
    3) The Colts will win the Superbowl over the Aint's
    4) Reggie Bush will or has contracted an STD from that Tranny Sasquatch he is dating.
    5) Louisiana will forever remain the ungroomed armpit of America.

While your placing your bets, here is my double play for your consideration:
    1) Jersey Shore will eventually fade out, replaced by Cajun Shore, including cast members. Cleetus, T-Bark, LaFonda, Bubba Ray, D-Style, Monique the hair stylist, and Antoine "The Substitution" Washington. First couple of episodes revolves around T-Bark chasing Squirrell up a tree for stealing his Pabst Blue Ribbon, while Bubba Ray and D-Style try and convince Cleetus to tear down his outhouse and use the indoor plumbing.

Looks like your head was up your a$$ when you made these guarantees (2 out of 5). I can't wait to see your attempt at humor when you respond to this.
Oh by the way, your double play is not an original thought. It is funny but what is funnier is you make it sound as if you came up with it.............be creative.

I hit on 4 of 5. Missed on #3, the Saints came to play and proved me wrong.
And my double play was an original, unlike your bandwagoning.
