The Red Dragon has been wounded. Who will slay them? Gold or Gut or South?

Solar Red vs Sting Hilton

The line minus the homer: Solar Red (4.7), Sting Hilton (0.27)
1st half score: Solar Red (2) Sting Hilton (0)
2nd half score: Solar Red (0), Sting Hilton (1)
Final: Solar Red (2), Sting Hilton (1)

I'm not suggesting that AS was wasting time but there sure were some "interesting" substitutions occurring during the last 5 min of play. Hey we even got DM and LostnTexas to standup and start coaching!!

Solar Red certainly outplayed Sting Hilton but we were not beat when we got out of the car. We held firm with good sound connecting play and 2-3 forwards most of the game. We didn't run and hide in the second half....quite the opposite we stood and fought. Coach Hilton "tried" to push 5 people forward at the end of the game....he smelled blood.

In all fairness Solar Red was missing their two best players who now play with the '02s. At this rate one or both of them might make a surprise visit to the '03s in the coming weeks/months.

Yes, I am "poking the bear" as Herradura put it but it is all in good fun!!!

LostnTexas...I wouldn't crown'em just yet! Based on today they may indeed where the crown at the end of the year and deservedly so but things will get real interesting when the other clubs combine (Sting, FCD, Texans) if uncombined teams can stay close.

I'll let Denny (below) say it for me.

I think its great that Hilton almost squeaked out a tie or win vs Solar. It will make teams think they have a shot, and it will make Solar try even harder. Sounds like a win win to me. Regardless of the outcome, Hilton's team must of been pretty impressive. Good for them. I am sure the die hard SRSA parents are protesting to Lake Highlands since they thought they were invincible and could only be beat or close to it with teams abusing the player pass rule. But, since all of the other D1 Sting teams played that day, we know that was not the case.

Anyone know the scores of the other games yesterday? Lhgcl website hasn't been updated or maybe someone forgot to send them in.

Troll. From what I saw, it could have been 4-0 real quick if not for some great goalkeeping by Sting. Solar possessed 80-90%, while Sting played like every other NTX team out there....which is with hope. They were physical, with only few connected passes. Solar can be beat at some point, but until a team can out-possess them - I don't see it happening. So you knock them off the ball, at some point you have to actually do something of quality with it.

So if you measure success by wins/losses or close games - then celebrate. But be careful...your DD could end up no real idea how to actually play the game.

Re: Week 13 D1LHGCL Predictions

Post by Erod on 10/03/14, 08:59 am

Having watched about 30 minutes of that SRSA game, the score is pretty shocking. Looked like a 7-0 waxing to me, with all the possession and chances going one way only.

Soccer scores tell nothing. I've seen many 0-0 games where one team dominates. Some days you find the net at will, some days it seems the ball is too big to fit in the frame.

From afar, it doesn't look like anyone in that age group is playing real soccer other than SRSA. Somebody will score more goals and win against SRSA on a Saturday sooner or later. It's inevitable because that's the sport. But it looks like it'll be years before somebody outperforms them tactically or technically on a Saturday.

They're simply playing a different game than anyone else. To be honest, that goes for the 02s as well because I don't see anyone moving it around like that up here yet either. And that's without their two top scorers from last year playing in the 02s this year? Sheesh.

Unfortunately, dump-and-chase soccer remains alive and well in North Texas girls soccer. Nice to see teams that don't resort to it.

So, what you are saying is, the score would of been 4-0 if the ball had made it to the the back of the net more? That is very insightful. Can you please continue to provide commentary on all games going forward?

09:16:24I've to say that Hilton played more possession soccer than any other team we ve played. At the very beginning of the game and a few times during the game you could see some good connecting going on. And hats off to the their keeper because she kept the game from getting ugly. I'm not sure where Hilton's team is ranked but I think they ll have no problem cracking the top 5 in the near future.

*Sigh* Erod summed it up better..."soccer scores mean nothing". I guess my attempt to share my oldest DDs experience fell on deaf ears. You dont need me to provide commentary on anything...something tells me you know it all.

Were there any blowouts in D3? I don't see the scores posted. I was just curious if any clubs took advantage of the player pass rule and borrowed from D1?

Re: Week 13 D1LHGCL Predictions

Post by herradura on 10/03/14, 10:10 am

I think its funny how everyone still gets all worked up over Solar. 1 point, 5 points, there is Zero doubt that they are the best of the 03s.

But yes, the proverbial gap is closing and those routine 5-0 games will turn into 2-0, 1-0 and godforbid 1-1 games - once the supergroup is formed next year. They might even get beat once  affraid

Now by ECNL time? hmmmmm, now that is an interesting conversation seeing they only have one group to pull from. This is where Sting, FCD & Texans have the upper hand (in that order).

So if anyone wants to give a shout out to DM, be sure to mention that he needs to put his recruiting hat back on… Or work a Pulp like deal and bring over a LP team or two..

If something does not happen, SRSA03 will only be remembered as one of the best girls academy teams to ever come out of NTX that got passed by and run over when games started to count...

What makes you think that in 3 years, some of the best players from other teams won't move over to SRSA and play on that ECNL team? And some of them may move over to your team? If you look across the ECNL landscape, it isn't as if club loyalty has held 100% across the board...the core group, yes, but the roster of 20 may include kids from multiple clubs...if SRSA is still the best at that age, they will get some looks from top players from outside their current roster...even some players who currently aren't on another top 5 or even top 10 roster (gasp)...
