Re: Week 14 D1 LHGCL Predictions
Question marks:
Cosmos won't score on Keegan but will on Premier? I think it's the other way around.
Solar puts up 5 on Rush and then also 5 on Gold? I think Gold will bring it Sunday...
DT goes scoreless for the weekend and gets tied / beat by two non top 5 teams? Not saying it won't happen, but it hasn't happened yet.

You've got me....I like LP Keegan. I'm rethinking my DT scores though especially after watching them practice yesterday. I walked away pleasantly surprised but despite that I still went with my gut on the predictions instead of my eyes. I might be regretting that one later.
Regarding Cosmos scoring on Premier...It's the 2nd game of the weekend and FCD Premier will dominate but it would be good for Premier's recruiting if they let lefty sneak one in on them as time expires.
Regarding FCD Gold/Solar, I have a hunch that Solar might be out to prove a point this weekend. If I recall correctly then the last time someone, the collective forum or a team thought that a team might have a legitimate chance to dethrone or come close to Solar (e.g. Sting G back in academy in the boys league) Solar took it personally and beat them like 11-0. I really wanted to put 7-0 for this game based on that hunch but then I believe DM/AS are savvy enough to know that beating Gold 7-0 would not look good in their efforts to recruit away Gold's stud. You want a wide enough margin so that there is no question that Gold isn't gaining ground but you don't want it so bad that it is insulting. 5pt margin is plenty enough. If Solar scores 7 then Gold's stud scores 2 for good measure. At least if I were King then that is how I would play it....

Re: Week 14 D1 LHGCL Predictions
I like Keegan too, it will be interesting to see how that team shakes out at the end of the season. There could be some talented players up for grabs if the cards aren't played right.
I like DT and their coach too. Its a good group of girls that are hard not to root for. I hope like hades that they continue to win with out C&R's coaching "help". No disrespect C&R… Well, maybe a little
The Cosmos lefty and the Gold forward… probably two of the most heavily talked about 03s out there. Will this be the year? I say it's doubtful as long as both teams stay in D1.
Solar is beatable, you saw that last weekend. I saw the 11-0 spanking of Sting G and the only way they will give it to Gold in that fashion is if the "two" show up on the sidelines and impose their dominance...

Re: Week 14 D1 LHGCL Predictions
I agree with you regarding Solar not putting 11 on Gold without "the two" but I could see 5 (or more depending on Gold's scoring count). It will come down to the discipline of Gold's defenders to not go for the dribble fakes, contest every shot and finally for the goalie to position herself well. In our game our goalie didn't have to make any diving or jumping saves. She just put herself in the right position that was dictated by the pressure of the defender and the angle of the potential shot and just caught all the rockets that came right to her. Both goals we gave up came off clean/low pressure looks (scrum on corner kick and a rebound from a rocket).herradura wrote:Haha, nice insight.

With Gold's speed up top I give them a puncher's chance however they will have to be willing to commit more than 1 to the attack so that she doesn't have to take on 4 defenders. If Gold can pull two of the defenders away and leave her to beat 2 defenders trying to cover her for 30+ yards then my money is on her every time. In order to commit more than 1 to the attack then the coach has to demand it and continuely remind the other forward(s) not to sink back to help defensively. It's going to be hard for those girls to sit up top and watch their comrades fighting for their lives and not be compelled to go help.

Re: Week 14 D1 LHGCL Predictions
"Sting Hilton is a great team" Wow....that is quite an elevation. Last week we were "mediocre." What a difference a scoreline can make! All kidding aside I wouldn't put too much stock in the Solar vs Sting H score. I don't think the result was a "fluke" but the two teams are still miles apart.jsullivan81 wrote:As mentioned, that was when they had the two players who no longer play on that team. Yes absolutely. Srsa had an off day and Hilton had to play their best and still lost. Wasn't their goal a pk?

Re: Week 14 D1 LHGCL Predictions
I don't think SRSA had an off day at all but some of the Sting H girls had their best day yet and others not so much. The result was a loss and thus much ado about nothing. You are correct, the goal was a pk. In big girl soccer the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (particularly from behind and in the goalie box) is usually a straight red. I think a PK was warranted but boy things would have gotten interesting if the ref gave the straight red. Ifs and buts.....silentparent wrote:jsullivan81 wrote:As mentioned, that was when they had the two players who no longer play on that team. Straight red card, ha - first of all the refs in NTX don't carry cards much less red ones. Also, when was the last time you saw a straight red in a youth soccer game in NTX?

FCD is ranked at #8 in the nation and is a pretender. Sting H is not a great team, but in D1....
I can't imagine your pep talks to little suzy.... "i know you tried your hardest, but you only scored 3 goals, to be great you have to (insert something absurd here)"

i said they are a top 5 team, not an srsa. srsa has had their top playmakers leave and still dominate the league, would you say if the top 2 kids on gold left they would still dominate? i say most likely not. srsa has dominated games and teams for years and has double the goals scored. fcd gold is a very good team but not a world beater. fcd gold also has not played its top competitors( except for south which they won 1-0) , after that we will have a better view...btw got soccer's point system is somewhat dubious to hang your hat on, their ranking system is shaky....
one more point sting h has the same record as the cosmos, does that make the cosmos a "great" team? not trying to disrespect teams but throwing around the word "great" does a disservice to the term.....
