    Big Games This Week

Post  Guest on Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:11 am

A few big games coming up next week...

None bigger than the Mustangs VS Solar Blue.... When I compare the remaining schedules, I predict that the winner of this one will jump FCD for 6th in the final standings....

A couple of other big games are:

    Obviously Sting 99 vs Solar!
Dallas Texans Red vs Aztecs.......Could decide who goes to D3 and who goes to D2
FC Dallas Rudd vs Sting Blue......Could decide who goes to D2 and who stays in D3

Still a lot of soccer left to play to put who goes where on 1 game. Only 4 pts separate 13 and 19. Some of the teams and that range have better chances at getting points than others in the remaining 5 games. LAs, Texans Red, and FCD East all have better chances for points than Hendeson or Odyssey, IMO. Easier part of schedule remains for some with some important head to head battles as well. Should make for some drama heading into the finish.

Sounder I agree with you on this one. Got to watch Solar Blue play Sunday morning and they looked good. Should be a really good one as long as our Stangs show up to play. They had a awesome game on Saturday then Sunday got the rug pulled from under them by SR.

I don't think Stangs Solar Blues matters(2 close teams, but game does not matter big picture, I predict not a good game).......Any game with meja, feet, tfc, rangel, fwfc(dark horse for me), sorry Odyssey and Henderson, just don't see it happening. 2 spots remain, I think the cut off point will be 23 at the most 24 for 10th spot.
5 games left every point matters, win or tie....... TFC had a huge weekend gettting back into it.

Every weekend for the next 5 weekends there are huge games as far as jockeying in the standings go. The two marquee matchups this weekend are clearly the Solar Blue v. Mustangs game and Solar v. Sting.

Solar v. Sting is interesting from the simple fact that if Flanny takes care of business, there will be a 3-way logjam at 34 points with 4 games left. Colvin looks like the logical choice to finish 3rd, with Royal 4th and Solar 5th.

The Blue v. Stangs game appears to be much more important for Solar Blue, as the Mustangs have four almost certain W's the last four weeks. So 23 plus 12 gets them to 35, almost guaranteed. The Solar Blue schedule is a bit more difficult with Texans North and TFC left to play. So the 4 point lead with 4 to go would be huge for that team. I disagree with LS in that I believe this game will be played at a high level and be a great game, a defensive battle. However, I do agree with LS that both teams will likely pass FCD for #6 and #7, as FCD has some buzzsaws left to run through over the final 5 weeks. I do believe those are your 6th, 7th and 8th place teams in the standings!!!!

From there, that gap between 16 points at #12(TFC) and the teams with 11 points is like the Grand Canyon, with only five games left. It looks the the Feet will claim that 9th spot. So, we are all left with North, Meja and TFC fighting for 1 single, solitary spot. North clearly has the easiest schedule, TFC second and Meja....all I can say is good luck. In fact, Meja's only realistic points left on their schedule is vs. TFC. I think the Feet finish at 26 (9th), North finishes at 25 (10th) and TFC finishes at 24. Mark that down!!!!

Excellent analysis NG! The big surprise for me on the list is the resurgence of TFC. After playing really tough over the Spring-Summer of 2009, the Fall was not kind to them. They had some surprising one-sided losses. I'm not sure what was going on but the team seems back to their pre-select selves recently. Maybe I should reverse the comment and say the big surprise for me is that they weren't playing well in the first place. Was there any reason they dropped off for a while? When we (Stangs) played them at PLD it was a very competitve game and I felt like the game could have gone either way. TFC played very physical and the win for us was always in question right up to the whistle.
Warrior, you've got a really good team and I've always admired the way the team was developed over the last 3 years. My dd was at Meja for a few seasons and we played TFC a bunch of times back in PAL.

Great analysis as always ...... Couple of points..... Colvin is playing at a high level right now(very South Lakeish) and Mustangs will be ready for Blue..... Humility is a good thing right???? Biblical????

Matchups are so important and strange...... Ask Royal.....

Geno thanks for the kind words. I wish I could go back and figure out the Fall and take a couple of those ties and turn them into wins, but it is what it is. As we have all seen, any given day can turn a win into a tie or a loss. We are extremely pleased with the way the Spring has started off. We played Texans very tough (hit the post twice in the first 10 minutes, how would a 2-0 lead over the Texans looked?) and played Solar tough as well. As you said, the team has come a long way in the last 3 years and MG has done a great job with them, keeping the core team together. The 2 goals against Feet were scored by girls that have been with the team since they were 7, gotta love that.
Whether we make that last spot for D1 or end up in D2, we will continue to play some good soccer and have some fun a long the way. Our girls are still talking about memories from our Vegas trip in January so we know we are on the right track with giving these girls a TOTAL soccer experience that they won't soon forget.
