Re: Will ODP Survive?
DA will attract serious talent. However, there is some serious talent that will not want to make the 130% commitment that DA is wanting (4 practices, no school sports, no odp, etc...)
ODP will help fill that void: highly skilled competitive players who won't fill the DA ranks, but want some extra touches.
My kid is in her 6th year of ODP and she loves it. The coaching and other extra opportunities (EXOS, camps, etc...) have been great for her development.
She is in the middle of attending College ID camps and talking to the college coaches. The majority of them see ODP on her soccer resume and it is a "big deal" in their eyes.

Re: Will ODP Survive?
There is so much more to all of this than that, and the national level is irrelevant for most. ODP on a soccer resume' is highly regarded by many college coaches, especially if you have advanced through the "ranks" during your tenure w/ the program. Why does it have to be an all or nothing question? ODP has been around for many years...the DA academy will have an impact on a select few in the grand scheme of things, not likely to rewrite the whole soccer scene of NTX. At all levels of soccer there are over 700,000 registered players (in NTX alone)that contribute to the over 3 million in the US. And as long as people keep having children, and then those children start playing soccer, there will always be many different levels of development among them...and those 1,000's of players will consistently be looking for places to train and develop to improve their game, at a level that is commensurate with their ability.

Re: Will ODP Survive?
ODP was and still is a credential and provides exposure, just not near what it used to be in the NTX area with ECNL and soon to be DA. .
Previously ODP was all there was above LHGCL and most all the best players in NTX participated.
What % of the best players in NTX signing with major D1 Power 5 Conferences are participating in ODP this year.
Looking at where the National Team players participated is kind of looking out the back window of a car to determine where you are going, given how much the landscape has changed since they were in their teens.

Re: Will ODP Survive?
I know that ODP opinions around here vary from very positive to very negative. My personal opinion is somewhere in the middle. Its good for extra touches and they are pretty good about teaching positional play, and at the regional level there can be some international travel with some good competition and experiences. But I also know that national team members from NTX will not be using ODP as their vehicle to get them there.
Prior to last year, I remember NTX taking their U13 teams to California to play against CalN and CalS in San Diego. If I remember correctly, NTX teams were also provided transportation to regional camp.
I'm wondering how many on here will be sending the DD's to camp? $975 seems pretty high for a 4 day camp that does NOT provide transportation to and from. I have a hard time sending my 12yo DD on a plane (or bus) ride to Birmingham without a chaperone, and I cant take 4 days out of busy work schedule to take her there. Wondering how others who may be going are handling this.
I've also heard that there is no U11/U12 sub-regional residential camp this year. There may a local non-residential camp but nothing at OU or A&M. That's too bad. That was what my DD liked most about ODP.
Seems like its really changed the last few years.

The bus was a positive part of the experience and a necessity based on the expense for our family. It has made the decision tough.
We are in the exact same boat!! Will probably try to swing it. Not so much for the soccer but will look good on the extracurricular list for the college application.

That is not good. The summer Oklahoma residential camp for the younger girls has been a highlight of the program for many years. My daughter has great memories of the OK camp.

IMHO An investment in your DDs life should be to as diversified as you hope that her life will be. If the majority of the people feel like the only focus is to send their DD to play soccer in college not to go to college and play soccer... then OPD money will go to DA.
