FYI Solar Red's keeper is Byars fulltime keeper also. And I saw at most 2 players with them so don't think it was a ton of playing time. Probably helped them out having the extra subs in the heat as much as anything.

I watched it so I'm not thinking. I'm familiar with the club and their players and they played a ton. Again, hats off to the big club for having resources. When it gets hot, you get to roster the best players to help you "beat the heat".

Rumor has it several players from Red are on White's roster and Black players with Blue to 'help'. I'm sure it's just due to the heat. Rolling Eyes

Rolling Eyes

This whining is so weak!

LHGCL has been diluted by the addition of JDL. Fortunately for Fever(and any Club that doesn't have access), some of the JDL teams are playing both leagues. And fortunately for Fever, there appears to be some dual rostering. These are good things.

lmao...

So much cynicism...not that I necessarily disagree with the assessment.  To be fair, though, I've seen it at more than just Solar.  I have no personal knowledge of this particular set of teams, but at the older ages I've seen it on the boys and girls side.  It's the rules.  They're slanted toward those who have the power.  Not that smaller clubs can't take advantage, they just don't have the resources to do so.  I've been on both sides of this with my 3 kids.

if it's allowed, it's naïve to think clubs won't take advantage.  Soccer is a big business here.  Anything that makes a club look stronger and thereby attract more players will be employed.  Such is the world we live in.  Also, somewhat think this is due to the fact that certain areas of the country are just soccer hotbeds.  I've lived in two other parts of the country where soccer wasn't nearly as big and so these kinds of things never came up.  I mean, do we really think all the players on all the "select" teams of north Texas are worthy of $3000-4000 investments per year?  Really?  30 teams in LHGCL, 30 in PPIL, 10-20 more in Arlington.  80 teams, 1200 players.  Seriously?  It's a business and the clubs have us all convinced it's worth it.

@Sho'nuff --

I don't know if the commentary is "weak". I happen to agree that independents should enjoy the challenge of playing tough teams to develop their teams since they don't have access to JDL/ECNL. But, I don't necessarily think the philosophical discussion itself is weak. It's the age old discussion about the haves and have nots. It's a good discussion to have. Again, my personal experience is with both independents and big clubs.

Well, you know, it's all perspective.... =)

Since I've lived both sides, I tend to have a more zen look at the whole thing, but it is reality and to ignore would be .... well..... ignoring it... haha!

No bitterness here. I was just congratulating a smaller club and making observations about LHQT. To echo @skiberdad, the rotation of things like Solar Magenta only make their opponents better as well. I don't see any views or ideas on here as whining, but even if they were, it IS a forum and last time I checked, forums were optional to visit.

Glad to see Fever handle Solar Black/Red/Blue/Etc. Guess the Soccer Gods don't agree with stacking rosters either. How do the parents and kids of the normal Byars squad feel when they get to the biggest stage only to lose playing time to Solar Red GK, Forwards etc?

I've always thought the better question is what do the parents of the ringers do when their kid gets hurt playing those games?

Is this not public? My bracket is the same I received from our team manager. Pretty sure this is solid.

Do you see a link on the LHGCL web site for week two schedule? Anyone can do some digging in GotSoccer and find the event number and formulate the URL to where the schedule page will eventually be located. It happens here all the time. Be sure that you'll get nothing but indigestion until the link shows up on the website.

I embrace all this except the big club accusation. I don't care about these clubs.

Maybe the coaches and parents see it as a way to get some kids more touches and experience.  This type of sharing/developing players worked out ok for one little club, Kicks, with their 01 group.  They start their 3rd straight Natonals appearance today in Frisco.

Maybe I am the overprotective parent, but my fear with all this playtime / practice at young age will lead to early injury or burnout. We are at a big club, but the coach is what makes for us, not the club...

Overuse injury?  Possibly.  I think the more likely scenario will be getting pounded into the ground by some opponent that has learned that there is almost never a downside for doing so. My oldest is beginning her 7th year in select. Her younger sister is beginning her 5th year. I have never seen a straight red card. Is it really possible that I have watched 12 years of select soccer and never seen an overly agressive/dangerous play? Or is it more likely that in NTX some of the Laws of the Game are simply never enforced. My eyeballs and experience tell me it's the latter.  The local game is too violent, it's too violent because the players learn through experience that there is no such thing as too violent.

Spot on.  Not only no red cards, but very few yellow cards.  I have 2 girls playing as well, a few less years, but have rarely seen even yellow cards shown.  They could take control of the games at earlier ages, and earlier in each game, and the kids will adjust and would learn to play without "overly agressive/dangerous play".
Violent physical play, not even attempting to play the ball most times, is rewarded more than skill and possession play.

Violent physical play, not even attempting to play the ball most times, is rewarded more than skill and possession play.

...and it curtails enjoyment...and it increases health care expenditures...and it shortens careers...

...and some will say if you don't like the physicality then don't let them play...but my kids LOVE to play soccer, and I LOVE to watch them and their teams...PLAY SOCCER-not rugby or lacrosse or football or wrestling...soccer, where there is a LEGAL physical element, and injuries will happen...but where skill should be apparent and encouraged.

I have seen 3 reds...(3 kids, 13 seasons of select in NTX plus years of academy)

First, one in a U15G game where the girl had been given a yellow for persistent infringement (6 serious fouls), then a little later, kicked at a player running past her...straight red. IMO, this is a coach problem...ref did his job!
-Well deserved! No room for that in the game.

Second, in a U13B game where in the 2nd minute of a game, a player tackled (shoulder to shoulder-offensive player didn't fall) a player who was about to shoot at the top of the box...and was given straight red for it...was interpreted as a "last man denying goal-scoring chance", but it was very questionable...especially in a PPL level, U13 boys game.
-Overly harsh for the actual play. Could have been anything from a verbal "play on" to a foul, to a yellow, to what it was...

Third, in a U16G game last year when on a break, the GK and forward collided on breakaway...GK said she touched the ball away before the collision (I couldn't tell if it was ball or girl-but not an uncommon play)...CR immediately waved and shouted "play on"...then stopped play to check on players...the AR called CR over and told the CR to change her call to PK, and red card...
-Considering the violent fouls that are common, this one seemed too much. I understood it, but I don't agree. There was no "playing the man rather than the ball" or anything of the sort-just a physical play...both players shook it off.

That said...I would be fine with a LOT more cards yellow and red being handed out too...
