Kudo's to the PIT

Post by boilerjoe_96 on 18/02/17, 11:04 pm

The forum has been fun to read lately, but here is something positive(but maybe boring).

Ligue Elite is doing things right, imho. I have a dd who is a referee. An older dd ref'd a couple years ago. What I have seen is that aspiring refs pass their test and they are thrown to the soccer wolves(coaches and parents) with no additional training. Today, first day of spring Ligue Elite, Nicole(outstanding ref and league director), the ref assignor, and a couple 'ref mentors' were at the fields to assist. These mentors, wear red shirts, and actually....gasp... watch the referees and give them an assessment after the game. At least that happened with my dd. I am sure having a couple extra people to pay all day long costs some money, but I know I would be more than willing to pay a few extra bucks to have the referee's assessed and corrected. Previous to today, neither of my dd's had a performance review(in over 100 games, combined). I am the only one who has pointed out areas for improvement.

I hope more leagues start to assess the refs, perhaps, with time, some sideline drama we've all seen, will go away.

Thank you PIT, Nicole and Tony.

Thank you boilerjoe and blues fan - we are doing our best and want to give our 373 teams a great experience from competition, scheduling to referees.

This is great to know, I have an 03 that just went to get her referee license to ref for the littles (U5-U8). This would be a great environment for her to learn the craft of being a good/great referee as she gets older. Assessments (feedback) are a key to learning in ANYTHING our kids do. That's why they get grades in school. Would be crazy to just throw 13-17 year old kids on a field to ref without someone assessing them.
