I agree, the pitches will not be a fast track. Rain, by the end of the week could have them playing at a snail's pace.

Sat this one out at home but the wife said the fields were slow as Christmas. Said she had never seen the playing field grass so tall. Texans did not play their best soccer. Having Eclipse and PDA in their bracket didn't help either. Hope Solar can pull it off but Eclipse is tough.Zizou wrote:Gunner9 wrote:Hope they cut the grass. Re: 2017 U14 ECNL NATIONAL PLAYOFFS
With temperatures in the 70/80 range, it's no surprise the summer grass had not taken over yet.
But the field is the same field all teams played on in this tournament and the talented clubs adapted to the conditions. Solar adapted and shot many balls into space knowing the grass would be forgiving enough to let their flankers catch up. Lesser teams didn't put enough on their passes and Solar intercepted pass after pass after pass.
Solar absolutely dominated in the semi-finals, obliterating SoCal Arsenal 4-1 and completely bossed around Eclipse Soccer 3-1 in the finals. It was clear that Solar 03 was in a different class than the other teams out there.
The only real challenge was So Cal Strikers in group play and that resulted in a draw 1-1. SoCal Strikers had a keeper that made 2 phenomenal saves that most other keepers would have missed. Michigan Hawks were also a draw in GP, but the score did not reflect the dominance Solar had over them - it was pure luck that prevented the score from being 3/4/5-1.
Solar 03 ECNL is a very talented group of girls in every position on the field - it was only fitting they won the national championship given how they dismantled everyone this year.

How many of these girls will be transitioning to DA next year? Not a knock, just an honest question regarding a very talented bunch of girls.

I would say they did. 1 loss in regular season (when 6 of their starters were out and their keeper was injured), and 1 loss in tournament play (in PK's) over a 1 year time period.
Then a butt kicking of in the semi-finals and finals in the tournament of the best of the best. If that isn't a dismantling of the competition, I don't know what is.
Please tell me what other North Texas team in the 03 age bracket can even come close to saying that.
Don't be so jealous that you take one sentence from my post and make it your personal crusade.

Nearly all of them - either to Solar 03 DA, Texans 03 DA or FCD 03 DA.

And to think that after shaking your hand a few months back, talking a bit about how good it was to see your daughter out on the field, and hoping to see you in the future that you'd be different....nope.

Hmmmm...not jealous at all my friend. Never said anything that would detract from what Solar accomplished this year. Actually very impressed with the team. Played you guys three times this season and all three games were down to the wire but I wouldn't call any of them a dismantling.NoFanOfDrama wrote:Cleansheets wrote:Nice homer call there. BTW, don't weaken your position by using the cliche excuse of this person was out or that person was injured. Everyone has games like that. Unfortunately all that matters to most people is what the score was when the whistle was blown. You know as well as I do that there will always be two versions of what transpired during the 80 or 90 minutes between whistles.
You guys have a fantastic group and you were the better team this year and ultimately no one can take that away from you.

Found this link to a video replay. Good quality. I made it to halftime so far. Lot of girls slipping. Game was played at about 8am according to the video.
Solar got on the board early and have the advantage in time of possession. Solar looks to be the better team.

Look... we've been through this like a-zillion times back when the '01's were in academy. It's an obvious fact that long grass has a greater impact on faster teams than slower teams, which is why all those teams with slow players dominated at ECNL Nationals this year... Sheesh...

Both. Length of grass, and softer ground. Problems were not just with judging weight of touches due to speed of roll in the longer grass, but also judging the height and distance of bounces with the softer sub-surface vs. the hard clay subsurface in NTX.
