Hey there little buddy --

If you're going to be a child and start a thread for no purpose other than to kick up some dust ... The least you could do is spell 'douchebag' and/or the coach's name (which in this case you are unsuitably dragging through the mud) correctly.

Alright ... Good talk.  See ya out there.

Agreed. LW is one of a very, very few coaches who I WOULDN'T place in that category. Always admired how he manages to produce top teams and very skilled players every year. My dd is an 05 so too young to play for him but otherwise would be there training with him in a heartbeat.

LW is a great coach for the right kind of kid. For others, it's a nightmare.

Very wise WisdomTeeth --

Since he will have the FCD 05 DA girls next year, you should bring yours out to have a look the week of May 1.  The U13 Girl's USSDA will pilot a new 'Texas Conference' so not as much travel, and only 3 required days of training per week.

Agreed - and maybe I should add some context.

LW will demand perfection every time.  And if they are not mentally tough and confident, that can take a toll on the kid.  If you can take the pressure LW will develop you further than you ever thought possible.

Hummm...interesting. Since you seem to know the lay of the land, will you need a release to try out? And will the DA pilot still have the same rules and limitations as regular DA? My kid might have a great curling career as well!

Good question.
Also, is it actually u13, or is it a 04/05 combined group? Other clubs are advertising it as 04/05.

I don't think Girls DA has sanctioned, blessed, or formed  a girls 05 division, league, whatever. They might. The boys have it.  But as of now, it's just a money, player grab by clubs. Clubs would have to set up the league and run it. Would be similiar to the DA 2 fiasco in California. And of course if an 05 is good enough to be on an 04 DA team, they can.

It's in the works locally. Last I heard they were 1-2 clubs away from making it feasible.

My DD is an 09, so a long way to go before we know if this is her path. Aside from all the snark, I have gleaned a lot of helpful info and insight on these pages. As a male, I get the coaching style described here for this coach. However, my perspective has also been informed via these pages by an opposite coaching style offered by UNC's head women's coach, Anson Dorrance (22 NCAA titles). It's helped me re-think the way I try to help motivate my DD, because boys and girls - on average - are going to respond in much different ways. Coach Dorrance's perspective on this video was helpful for me:

Wouldn't it be easier to list the good coaches. Shorter more concise list I would think.

No, ProDallas isn't me...but I like his thinking ;-)

(From what I've seen / experienced) LW demands perfection and has no time for those who don't want to push themselves. However he will give the player the instruction they need to achieve what he wants versus a number of other coaches who just yell at the girls "you're doing it wrong" but never show them the correct way.

(From what I've heard) LW will find his players for his team, if you think you're DD can be a "hanger on" you're in trouble.

All in all I'd be more than happy having my DD play for him. There are very few coaches in this are who actually know their @@@ from the elbow and care enough to pass their knowledge on to the girls. A number of these coaches are demanding and can go off the deep end sometimes. If you and your DD can deal with it, great. If not, I can point you in the direction of the 5 minute late, setting up cones 15 minutes into practice, everybody likes him, $75 worth of coaching for $3000 coaches.

P.S. I'd also change the name of the thread to "who wants to dance with libel?"

speaking of Anson...listen to how competitive his practice is, would your DD be strong enough to be publically ranked in EVERYTHING they do on the field?

Lakedad --

No release required for these at the current ECNL clubs starting week of May 1 (ECNL/US Club loophole + 'Gentlemen's Agreement' between all of the DOCs) ... and for Girl's DA going forward, I believe tryouts can occur at any time so long as that player isn't rostered at another DA team.  The U13 DA pilot league would differ from U14+ in that there is less travel (TX only for league play + fewer regional/national events) and only 3 training days required per week.

SWINGIT --

From what I've been told directly from those involved in this at multiple clubs, the U13 Girl's DA program will operate independently from the U14 program.  There will be a U15 only division as well before they go to combined age groups for the older kids.

Fireman --

We all know about the old, tired "money grab" stigma that exists when discussing the bigs, but that isn't the case here.  This is about the power struggle between the USSDA and the ECNL.  Both had planned on initiating programs for younger age groups, so when ECNL announced they were going to U13 next year, USSDA followed suit ... simple stuff.  I've been told by Directors at both FCD and Solar, that the USSDA Girl's clubs in TX will form a 'Texas Conference' for league play starting this Fall.

Wait you have never been on his team? So you have heard stories? I've heard the story about the 3 little pigs but I'm not worried about a wolf blowing on my house. You come on and create a post just to put a coach as the biggest DB and then basically say you don't know him at all. Sounds like the biggest DB is YOU.

Sounds like LW didn't think little sally was good enough or is there more to the story?

Just hope they run it better than the "composite", jdl, yes I said jdl lol, leagues, etc. Let me know the price compared to the real DA. I am guessing slightly more. Unless they bless it, the USDAA will have nothing to do with it. No league fees waived, no free refs, no free balls, lol.  Just a siren song by the DA clubs. To get some revenue to support the real DA teams. But I agree, if they do sanction it, which they won't this year, it is to try and snuff the life out of ecnl. Zero need for 11-12 years old to travel across Texas to play a league. Hell, no need until 14-15 in my opinion. But we stand inline to do it.

From what I've been told, the USSDA is putting that decision on the clubs.  I know that at FCD, they've made the decision that the kids still in MS (U13, U14 next year) will be permitted to participate in other activities.  However, it's likely (as would be the case in ECNL as well) that if a kid misses training or games due to outside activities, it would likely play a role in their roster status/match time.
