Trouble in Paradise?

Post by Big Ern on 17/04/18, 10:53 am

Hawks gone and rumors of a couple other big ones to follow suit ...

Just growing pains or more of a sign of things to come?

A very solid club to drop out. How is BIGEGO handling it?

The complaints that continue to mount are 1. the financial burden (that is easy for some clubs but not others) and 2. the paperwork and administrative burden.  These are soccer clubs and poorly run small businesses in most cases, not consulting firms.

Agreed for the most part --

But the Hawks (and the others rumored to be joining them) already have had boy's DA for some time now haven't they?  Is the administrative burden really that different for girls, and wouldn't they have had practices + staff in place to handle that kind of thing by now?

Indeed DTX --

Any wouldn't ya know it ... The Hawks already took their big announcement down from their site.  Guessing they got an incensed phone call from USSDA this morning citing a potential PR nightmare and pandemonium from the crazies ...

It's sad really.  I almost hate to be right on this one.  The biggest governing body for soccer in America and they continue to make the same dumb mistake.  They should stop trying to dictate how things should be, and instead work with DOCs and clubs to come up with a plan that is suitable to all.  If they had taken ECNL structure and expanded on it they would not be in this predicament.    Yes MedMan you can cue the music, or post links to the videos.  It all comes down to follow the money and don't tell "us" (meaning the clubs and their Docs) how to do their job.

From what I gather...here locally...
You’re only in DA heaven if you’re at FCD and then there’s another realm lower for Solar.
Texans...well what can I say? I’m hearing mass exodus in conversations.

Paying more for less preparation, practice fields that close with the slightest bit of moisture, unpredictable additional costs, unqualified coaches, and being left in the dark as far as what direction the club is headed in...it’s a smdh matter.

Can FCD or any DA club withstand having very little competition without having to travel frequently?  If a majority of teams drop DA to go back to ECNL, where will college coaches recruit?

Most colleges recruit BFS athletes, because they will only have them 3-4 years anyway.  So if DA attracts WNT potential, and clubs with ties to the professional team attract the next tier for NWSL then why would college coaches fight over those resources?  Lack of interest from clubs, lack of interest from colleges...

Things aren't looking good if no one is interested in the product.

I hear ya Biggie.  It shouldn't be an issue for those clubs with both but it is for some reason.  This DA thing just is not for everyone.  You have been saying it yourself.

But that applies to the clubs too, not just players.  If the goal is to have a truly elite program, then there needs to be fewer clubs.  And they have to be clubs that can actually handle the push to develop top national prospects to be our elite players - financial, administrative, coaching qualifications, infrastructure, etc.

In my humble opinion, which I have shared several times, the roll out was too fast, too big, and too arrogant.

I agree with Angie, for NTX that means FC Dallas and maybe Solar.  Texans cannot handle it and I expect an announcement soon that they are dropping DA.  And by soon I mean an 11th hour whisper only after the torches and pitchforks show up outside of Ross-Stewart.

Doesn't Texans have a quality DA program for the boys? Why couldn't they easily replicate for the girls? Is there that much of a divide in NTX between the boys and girls? If so, shame on the NTX clubs. Soccer, volleyball, basketball are major avenues for our girls to transition into university and helps them with the tools they will need to be successful in life. NTX soccer needs to talk to the volleyball clubs for some advice on how to do this correctly.. Volleyball is the most efficient and optimized business focused on girls success that I have ever seen in sports. They have both the right business model and competitive model in girls sports today.

Outside the exodus of players what are we talking about coaching wise w the landscape changing. Sounds like a bull rush in the streets old Mexico.

I’m guessing because the boys didn’t have ecnl maybe? Until now...
But the boys didn’t have options like the girls did this year. Texans most successful girls team currently is DA and the members don’t sound too crazy about staying in DA. All signs point to sticking with ECNL. That 11th hour sounds about right!!

True.. but i guess my question is isn't the boys DA program the same as what is being rolled out for the girls? If so, I would think Texans would have just easily shifted unless the girls side of Texans can't comply with all the rules/regulations. If this is the case, then it begs the question as to why the girls side hasn't invested like the boys side. I assume the club dues are the same between boys and girls so why isn't the investment/infrastructure similar between the boys and girls? If it is a coach certification thing, Texans could easily fix this problem by getting their girls coaches off their butt to get their certification or just go hire some.. Thoughts?

You will have to contact the club DOC and ask him directly. It takes money to make money.

I don't think it's a money problem.. NTX has proven itself to be rich in this area. I think it's something else. Maybe a power/control struggle or the fact that girls soccer is not as important as boys soccer.
