Florida Showcase Empty Florida Showcase

Post by DDdad on 01/01/14, 11:52 am

Many of the U15, U16 and U17 recently returned from the Florida showcase last week. While not every team attended and two clubs (Solar and TSC) scheduled other showcase events, the Texas Conference had a total of 21 ECNL teams travel to Orlando.

Most of the competition were east coast teams from the Northeast, Mid Atlantic and Southeast conferences. The Texas Conference and North Texas in particular had very good showings.

Overall, the Texas Conference went 31-22-10 for a 49% win rate and a 35% loss rate.

North Texas fared even better at 19-7-7 for a 58% win rate and a 21% loss rate. Sting went 6-0. Texans 7-1-1.

Great Job ladies.

Do you have the website for the tournament? Would love to see the colleges that were represented.

401 names on the list. Very nice.

I know the count at our U-15 games were game 1 - 26 coaches, game 2 - 16 coaches (in the rain), game 3 - 21 coaches.

I found this interesting but wondered if anyone has any insights?

Eclipse ECNL are National ECNL Champions in 98 division but went 0-3 in Disney Showcase this week v non-ECNL top national teams.

Could be anything - injuries, different roster?
Keeping in mind ECNL is not the best of the best everywhere - just happens to be in NTX.

Anyone know how that National League vs 'Other' bracket/pairing worked?

After getting a Texas-based team roster, a coach asked "So are any of your girls interested in playing out east?"

He was told the players were open to that, and I think they are, but it is an issue.  There were a lot of coaches for this showcase from teams on the east coast, which typically sounds like a better thing for players than parents.

I could see that - I've seen some smaller exclusive/private schools in the East the soccer was less than on par than what is played at the higher levels here (in club). So, I'd think they'd want some Texas girls if they can trick them into thinking the weather is more accommodating. A lot of those schools have better aide for the most part as well.

My dd used to be in touch with the recenlty graduated Vassar keep who is a Solar/N. Tx product.  In  addition to playing soccer, she also played basketball.  Centenary told my dd this was also a possibility.  Both fine schools where freshman will likely also see significant field time.   The Vassar keep said other than the culture shock of an extremely liberal east coast school/experience, she loved it and greatly encouraged dd to look at the D3 academic schools with sports experience.    I think even a young Mia would find the soccer challenging enough if the school was a higher ranked d3 school, i.e. like Sewanee - University of the South or Trinity.  Sewanee has many girls from New Orleans and Tennesse is north and cold to them Smile

We've had friends use soccer to help admission and enhance academic money to Williams, NYU, Johns Hopkins among others. There's a great big wide world out there beyond D1.

98 ECNL is the real deal. To win National is hard thing to do. But we all know how teams change. Plus you don't know what guest players the teams bring. Since it was not a ECNL event, I wonder
if this was not the ecnl team, but a mixture of there D1 team.

Florida Showcase Empty Re: Florida Showcase

Post by Flatback4 on 05/01/14, 07:05 am

In regard to the Eclipse Select 98 ECNL team it was composed of 30 players last year (and 23 this year). It won the ECNL Championship in July 2013. The Eclipse Elite 98 Black team won the USYSA National Championship later in July 2013. The Eclipse Elite 98 Black team was a subset of the Eclipse Select 98 ECNL team last year. The Eclipse Elite 98 Black team was  playing its National League games at the Disney Showcase, but in the Black Showcase bracket (the second bracket at Disney). The Eclipse Elite 98 Black team won two and lost two NATIONAL LEAGUE GAMES AT DISNEY.  In each age group, there are only 16 National League teams so it is a very competitive league.

Also, the first two brackets at Disney (Red Showcase and Black Showcase) are the toughest.

I just checked this years rosters and there are no dual rostered players on the two teams, but that was how it was last year when they won both National Titles so maybe the Eclipse 98 ECNL team is not as strong as it was last year when it had a roster of 30 players compared to this year's roster of 23 players.

Nevertheless, those 23 players on the Eclipse ECNL team are great players including Zoe Redei, U-17 national team member. If some of those key players from the ECNL team did not go to Disney, then the team would not be as strong. Plus, the Eclipse ECNL team is second in its conference this year.
