ECNL U14 Texas Region - End of Season Results
ECNL U14 Texas Region - End of Season Results
I can't overlook the fact that Sting was probably the most "touted" to be pre-season favorites with Solar and Texans not far behind (not sure why FCD was not in the conversation). As most thought Sting would run away with it....I have to admit....I had them as the team with the most upside and potential.
Sting - Never seemed to gel in the mid-field and connect with the horsepower up top...at least not enough to beat the top 3-4. Defense played well and tied for the 2nd least amount of goals on the season. Good team, well coached and probably looking to add some strength at mid field in the off season.
FCD - Won the most games against the top 4 (5 of 6), but could not play consistently enough against the 5-10 teams. Lost to Lonestar twice and tied a few games that left me somewhat boggled...to say the least. Team does not need much...as they play well as a unit. However, the bringing in of 00's and 02's may be some of the reason why there is inconsistency with their results. I still think this is a top 10 team in the nation...when they play with the right team on the field.
Texans - Played hard all year and did not give up. I'm no math whiz...but I can tell you....the odds of them making it to Nationals in week 14 was like 100-1. Their ability to close out the season in the fashion they did...is impressive and directly related to their team chemistry, coaching and internal fortitude. Beat the teams they were supposed to beat and won the right games at the right time to be #2.....congrats!
Solar - Started the season on a high-note and road it all the way to the FCD game. FCD played a magical game and left us all wondering who was the best team in the Texas Region (and rightfully so....game 1 performance was best in class). Team found out that "Turf" is not our friend and there are some opportunities there! Closed out the season strong and solidified their #1 status.
Dfeeters - Played hard all year and did not change their style of play. Team has a strong back line as well as a few bright spots at mid-field. As noted at pre-season...team needed talent up top to take it to the next level. Based on Goals Scored.....I would expect they are recruiting heavily in that area...like right now!
Non North Texas teams - Lonestar, AHFC, TSC, Challenge and Rush - Lonestar had the most impact on the region as they single handedly put FCD out of 2nd place...team is fast, aggressive and will probably end up in the top 3-4 next season. Albion had a few nice wins/ties against top 3-4 and plays some good soccer. TSC finished the season strong and the tie against FCD may have been the nail in the coffin. Rush is a good team, however, 18 yellow cards vs. 13 goals makes you wonder...what is your focus? Challenge fought the good fight and played hard all season...maybe they can pick up some players from Albion or Rush and build upon their current foundation.
As for NTX recruiting next season....I think you will see a few eye opening/game changer moves and a few that might make you shake your head...more to come!

Please explain to me how Feet keeps their spot?
Tophat was one of the top non ecnl clubs so losing them hurts the national league big time

ECNL U14 Texas Region - End of Season Results
I enjoyed reading your analysis of the year in results. I have a question about the standings.
How does FC rank 3rd with one less win than Sting?

You must be joking about feet. Several bottom third ecnl teams are ridiculously bad across the country, and feet is nowhere close to that level. Despite clubs getting hammered in every age group, year after year, ECNL has only ever kicked out 1 club. Feet are still putting girls in D1 schools, and from what I can tell the 01s are only 2 to 3 players away from being right there with everyone else. There is not a huge gap between feet 01 and the others.
Tophat getting ecnl is a big get for them, but a loss for region 3. Not sure it's a L for national league because I doubt Tophat walks away from NL. That's a huge showcase with NT scouts everywhere. Surf gave up their NL bye at u14, but Surf has ECNL San Diego. My guess is if a team like Michigan Hawks stayed in NL, Tophat would do the same. The big loss is any regional USYS PL that will now only get Tophat B teams.
I have to wonder if OFC sending their players into Dallas ecnl teams had anything to do with their falling off in spring national league. They weren't nearly as competitive as they were in the fall. I predicted they would fall off once key players started showing up in ecnl. The question for u15 is will the same thing happen to kicks once they start sending certain players to be dual rostered in ecnl. U15 will definitely be the transition year for 01s.

Inquiring minds want to know... Since each team is allowed three discovery players and with 5 ECNL teams in '01s and 5 in '00s, there should be enough spots for all Kicks and a few OFC players... Has the bidding already started or finished?

thebox wrote:Fact: greater population numbers geographically create more soccer players for clubs. Its a numbers game on attracting and developing geographically. ECNL has selected top clubs geographically to attract the top developing talent. When that model breaks down, who does it negatively affect? I can think of many, including the commuting players.
ECNL has selected many top clubs. Probably most of the top clubs. They've also selected more than a few marginal clubs, and they're aware of stronger clubs that would be competitors for current members and thus are being left out (Beach, Legends, NEFC, etc. etc.).
ECNL at one point had a rule that was 300 miles for commuting players (I think). Apparently they've dropped that rule as they've gotten traction and turned towards expansion.

Actually I am not joking because this is about more than the 01s. The club has marginal teams across the board.
Other than Shaw's team (from Solar) none of the other Feet teams are in the top of the conference
7-3-10-8-5....not good and I would imagine Ecnl would love to add a team in Oklahoma and getting rid of the bottom club in DFW makes sense

Re: ECNL U14 Texas Region - End of Season Results
What is the population of Oklahoma and Arkansas individually when compared to the population of DFW alone? They would change clubs within DFW, or add to another state, before subtracting slots from a large market that supports it. North Texas, more than supports ECNL so your statement makes NO $ents. When they decide to expand into the PLW levels for corporate expansion purposes, the latter could happen. They appear to still be focused on quality expansion over quantity expansion. I doubt they will leave their "initial purpose" this early in their lifecycle. Can't imagine this being a reality if the numbers are in Texas.
