I'll take your word for it AD. Wondering if that's the case if your DD isn't playing for a 6A school or one of the TAPPS powerhouses.
Not buying it.
My dd has played for a State winning HS and have been in State Finals 3 years in a row, and also played for an ECNL Championship finalist team, so I have been around and seen it.
At HS games, I can count in one hand the number of College coaches who have come to watch the State Powerhouse games and State Finals.
At ECNL Showcase and Championship games, College coaches outnumber the parents by far.
I've been going to HS games for more years than I'd care to count, and I don't think I've ever seen a high school game with multiple college coaches. I can only remember 3 or 4 games where I saw even one.
Like it or not, for now, the ECNL has the college coaches covered. I know my dd's coach has pretty much stopped going to any of the other non-ECNL events, unless they are close or they are in the area for some other reason.

Good thing I take pics then. Pictured is three college coaches in one room; one sec coach, one big 12 and one from a smaller school. I know the sec was watching a player that has commited to him. I have video from other games...ballhead wrote:Pele98 wrote:AmazonDad wrote:true, im guessing it's only the big schools. My guess is that the answer to the first 2 questions is the major share of the roster if not all of it. The rankings have Allen in the top 5. I believe that explains everything and why they are there.

Geez, Lighten up ECNL people. I'm sure ECNL is the greatest league on earth. And no right minded College coach would ever do anything outside of ECNL... I was just commenting to a friend, BW, that I was shocked coaches were there. the end.TatonkaBurger wrote:We are talking about Allen HS right? How many ECNL players does the varsity team have? I just looked at your photo with a 'lot of coaches sitting in press box'....and coincidently, they are all wearing Eagles Maroon shirts, found a pre-schooler to help tell me with how many heads she can see, and she told me two.
I guess you can call that counting, I don't know. Math is so tough to me.

We happened to play Allen this season and came across a certain '01 Freshman forward that we had not seen in a while. She's still good.

I was careful to mention DI girls too because it's not all about ECNL. The point was that those coaches were there because it is a really good HS team and probably because of the ECNL and DI girls on the team. I should have also mentioned Premier-National league players because was not defending or promoting one specific league.

It was a bloody mess.. the keepers eyebrow separated and hung down over her eye and you could see the skull, but they sewed it up nicely and she's fine now. I would post a closeup pic but it's caused several to lose their dinner. Thankfully no concussion.

In the overall scheme, gonna create more opportunities for more players, and better opportunities for those players.

Re: What Road to take...
ECNL in NTX will be less important so there will be more importance placed on other competitive leagues and coaches will go to more games.
My feeling at the moment is that if you're female the benefit of working hard to get really good at soccer is fairly marginal but if you happen to be really good, the work doesn't seem hard so the benefit can be marginal and still worth it. Pity though. It would be much better if women in sport were respected and had opportunities equal to their talent and the entertainment they can provide.
That's probably going to take another generation or two. Meantime I guess go with what you have or take up Tennis. The problem may be one of expectation and cost. The expectation justifies the cost. Lower expectation...

RightWingDad wrote:Good podcast on SoccerWire regarding ECNL, High School Soccer and Girls DA. About 51 minutes. Most salient comments I thought were at the 45 minute mark where they address scholarships/subsidizing players and FC Dallas. Will DA penetration into ECNL rich markets delude the talent? It will be interesting to watch.

Good information in that podcast. Interesting thoughts on how they feel that DA will and should work with ECNL. A lot of people want to point at DA as a better option but these guys discuss several issues where DA is getting it wrong. I guess we will wait and see.

Re: What Road to take...
DDdad wrote:Can your DD play in College and not play in the ECNL? Without question. There are 37,000 women college soccer players at all levels of play. Divided by four years, that is 9,250 per grade. Of that number 2,250 are DI per grade. Say 9,000 DI players in total. There are roughly 70 ECNL teams x 20 players per team so roughly 1,400 players x 4 age groups (leaving out the U14 to you have an easier comparison). So 5,600 ECNL players. Thus, if every single ECNL player played D1 soccer, they would fill roughly 60% of the D1 slots. And 0 slots in any other bracket. I'm not saying that every ECNL girl gets a D1 scholarship but pointing out that there is lots of room for many paths.
To your point, it looks like there are another 1,000 to 1,200 D1 openings after this years ECNL commitments.

The class of 2016 is comprised of Amazing Young Women who will be playing at multiple collegiate soccer levels:
ECNL Class of 2016: 1,310
College Bound ECNL: 1,217
Total Players Playing Collegiate Soccer: 1,209
Division I: 955
Division II, III, NAIA: 264
Undecided: 91

Why ECNL...is there another road to take.
Is a player only in ECNL or are they playing with their normal team and school team?
I know trips are a cost but is ECNL an extra cost too?
If you are just asking this question now, ECNL is not the right path for your DD... just sayin.
