Because the rest of the world are starting to catch up in women's soccer. It was hardly played anywhere in the world by women apart from here now it's growing. If you watched how technically superior the Japanese women were during the week it shows we need to be working on that side of the game.

Agreed. Japan was the better team. Even the commentators made constant comments about the work Japan does on their technical game. They just thought the US could outlast Japan because they were more athletic.

Japan didn't qualify for the Olympics. They are ranked 7th by FIFA. If the Development Academy is the answer that all the soccer big brains think will keep women's soccer competitive, why hasn't it worked for men's? Seems like yet another fix(age pure) or program change to a system that has worked well enough to put the USWNT at the top. Just sounds like another layer of BS .

Women are second class citizens in most of the World. As progress is made socially, other countries will catch us.

Japan didnt qualify for Olympics. Instead of having to coddle their entitled aging players with guaranteed contracts, Japan retooled their team and brought through the young players. The result is what we saw Friday. Word is a few days ago their u20 hammered our u20 5-0.
Despite the chest beating casual fans of wnt, USSF is smart enough to realize the women have a lot of work to do if they want to stay at the top. Not sure DA is the answer, but doing nothing but status quo surely is not.

That work is already being done and has been done for years now. The Lake Highlands League and it's counterparts around the country along with ECNL are already doing the heavy lifting to produce top talent. Just because USSF can't put the best players on the field doesn't mean you need yet another program. Especially one with an all or nothing set of rules like DA. USSF needs to take a look at it's internal operation. College coaches know how to find the best players why cant USSF work the same system.

They didn't look so technically superior in the World Cup. They just came out and hit the U.S. the other night and they weren't expecting it. That happens from time to time. USWNT is still the undisputed #1.
