www.ntxsoccer.org/assets/pdfs/2016_AGM_Notification__Agenda_and_Proposed_Bylaw_and_Rule_Chang.pdf

On July 10th, presidents of the NTSSA home associations will vote on the following bylaw change...

3.14.12.5
U11 and younger shall not engage in heading, either in practices or games. When a player deliberately heads the ball in a game, an indirect free kick (IFK) should be awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the offense. If the deliberate header occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick should be taken on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred. If a player does not deliberately head the ball, then play should continue

3.14.12.6
For players in U12 and U13, heading training should be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes per week with no more than 15-20 headers per player, per week

This rule appears to be dangerous in application.

My DD was taking some pretty hard balls to the chest, but experienced a lot of pain. The pain lingers pulling the muscles in her ribs when she sneezes or breathes hard. I'm not a doctor, but I assume breathing is important.

I've seen kids take balls to the face trying to avoid the header. I've also seen an increase in high kicks.

Give me a waver, and I'll sign it.

Amen to that... Amen

Kung Fu Soccer has reached new levels at Premier Copa and Flamefest with these rules.

I also concur.

Maybe we can get SoapBoxMom to sue US Soccer to get it reinstated?(plus cash for her of course)

Do you mean like the waiver you sign every year when you register your children with NTSSA? Read the form. http://www.ntxsoccer.org/UserFiles/file/Competitive%20Regsitration%20Form%20Revised(1).doc

Kids can sign contracts, but they can't use their head to play the game properly. Makes sense.

I'd be scared to death if my DD was one of the shorter girls on the field right now. Those cleats are getting closer to the face by the week! Especially when players are ducking to get out of the way of the ball.

Is there some conclusive data that Heading the ball is the leading cause (or even a significant contributor) of concussions in soccer? In my limited experience, it seems heads bouncing off the ground and goal posts have been the leading contributors to concussions. Shouldn't those be restricted first? (Sarcasm)

I'm still gonna snicker a bit every time I hear a parent scream out from the sidelines, "Hey!!!! That's a headball ref!!!!"

(...and then hear someone with a British accent chime in and say "There is no such think as a headball, it's heading you ignorant Yank!")

Let me make sure I understand. Your little girl is taking soccer balls ro the chest so painful she cant breathe and maybe even bruising her ribs.

And your analysis is she would've been better off taking those shots to the head?

Hodor strongly supports "the integrity of the game" above his daughter's well being! Despite all the "evidence" that repeated blows to the head (resulting in concussions or not) can and do cause CTE- I want my child to learn the game the "right" way. We can deal with her long term memory issues when she gets older.

Concussions are transient injuries rather than blunt trauma injuries (usually). So, yes, headers *can* cause a concussion but more often it is falling to the ground and the head bouncing/bobbing. This is why females suffer more concussions - the neck muscles are weaker and therefor the transient Dribble is greater.

You say "transient dribble" and I look over my shoulder to see if SoapBoxmom is there.

Again, it's not only about concussions, it's about whether repititive head impact diminishes brain function over time. Net is...the science isn't conclusive. Some studies conclude yes, others don't. What is clear is advancements in neuroscience mean we can be much more informed on these matters than we were even 15 years ago.

Since we're talking pre-teen kids, 100% on board with ussf on this one.

Yes, good stuff!

What's funny is people complain about a rule meant to protect young children based on facts....but line up to pay for all the silliness going on right now, with no information. Concussions are a real problem in girls soccer.

I love it!  JDL and Composite are like CPP a couple of years ago...  Doesn't matter what the topic of the thread was to start with, someone always managed to bend it back around to get a shot in about CPP...
lol!
