My DD also went through the program. ODP absolutely helped in the recruiting process. First offer from a power 5 came from a program that first started tracking her after seeing her at ODP regionals. ODP coaches encouraged her to play positions club coach said she wasn't good enough to play. Years later, ODP coaches ended up right. Many college coaches have current or former odp coaching experience.Zizou wrote:My DD have gone through the program. She has experienced zero advantage in the recruiting process from being a part of ODP.
It may be dead in TX, but its not dead at regional and national levels. Hopefully NTX gets ODP costs and politics under control.

Zizou wrote:How many girls from NTX ODP are making it onto the regional squad. None, maybe one, if we are lucky two. DD made it into the regional pool. Was able to train in the night sessions and played in the end of camp pool games. She is in the process of being recruited as we speak. I would say about 10 d-1 colleges we have been in contact with and about 5 of them she is considering. None have asked about her ODP experience.
But would those 10 D-1 coaches have even seen her with being in the regional pool? Were they all out at UTD watching her play or at those private training sessions that you're overpaying for? If you take ODP for what it is, a few extra touches, hearing a different voice and eventually getting your DD a few opportunities to be seen, then you're getting your money's worth.

Kick tha ball is right, the extra coaching voices, touches and experience is about all one should go in expecting. Zizou is also right in that a scholarship level player does not need odp to be recruited. But go look at the roster bios on most college soccer sites and see how many still mention odp participation. It's still a common element in the pedigree of most players at that level.

Quickly becoming a relic of the past.
May be true for a few seniors graduating from college this year, even less among the juniors and virtually non-existent among the rest and the incoming class of 2017 HS graduates.

Sure DDs and parents will have to put in some "marketing efforts" (going to camps, playing in showcases, sending out letters) on their own. But the the bottom line is, if the player is good enough, college coaches and recruiters will find them. Just like in all other sports. If it's the DDS choice, NOT THE PARENT, to play a little college soccer and most importantly, get a college degree, does it matter where the offers come from. Professionals from every aspect of life come from all levels of colleges.

Lefty wrote:"The better programs are not going to offer $$ until they have seen a player multiple times. Making ODP regional in early years just adds a check mark on the players resume and can get them on a tracking list for some schools. NTX used to regularly put players on odp regional and national events. In recent years some clubs actively discourage (or punish) odp players. The net is regional coaches now believe NTX is no longer sending their strongest players to odp....increasingly this is true.

No doubt Lefty ... this has become a sad truth in NTX.
And with the sub par carousel of coaches NTX ODP is now running through + the addition of Girl's USSDA to the landscape, it will not be recovering anytime soon.

Zizou wrote:my suggestion would be to do it for the fist two years, if you are on the top team by year two. Experience a regional camp and get out.
Agree with this. But it's not a relic yet.
This sheet is not as well updated as it used to be, but you can click on the by club worksheet and see there are still quite a few players listing ODP in their accolades. In my DD's class, just about all the players I see committing early participated in ODP at some point in their past. They are younger than 2017s.

Don't see it among the players from the big 5 clubs in NTX.
Now if you and your DD were to move to a geography where there is no ECNL, and there will not be DA, then I would agree that is not the relic that it is in NTX.
