Same Club coach as High School Coach Empty Same Club coach as High School Coach

Post by Guest 01/02/17, 06:23 am

Does anyone remember the rule about high school coaches coaching the same player in a club and in high school?

I seem to remember that the coach could do that up to a certain age and then the player had to have a different coach at that point.

Anyone remember? Or am I just remembering wrong?

I thought U13? As long as players are not in same district coach can continue to coach older girls but not simultaneously.

It is when kids start playing for the UIL. Nothing to do with the age, just when you start school sports. A coach cannot train a kid that is moving into that school zone, or currently in that school zone. It is a violation of UIL guidelines.

You are correct, TP.  I just looked it up in the UIL rules.

Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Softball
In accordance to Section 1201, 1206 and 1209 regarding non-school competition (leagues,
camps, clinics, clubs, tournaments, 7 on 7, lineman challenges) coaches:
The C&CR prohibits the following:
1) Shall not instruct any student in 7th – 12th grade from his/her own attendance zone unless the
student is his/her own biological or adopted child.
2) Shall not schedule matched games/scrimmages, practices, or contests.
3) Shall not transport students.
4) Shall not use school athletic equipment, school uniforms and school health/first aid supplies.
5) Shall not use school or booster funds for any expenses associated with the activity.
6) Shall not be the primary director.
7) Shall abstain from any practice which would bring financial gain to the coach by using a student’s
participation in a camp, clinic, league, or other non-school athletic event, such as a rebate for each
player sent to a particular camp or from each player using a particular product (Section 120l [b, 9]).
Cool Shall abstain from any practice that makes a student feel pressured to participate in non-school
activities (Section 120l [b, 10]).
9) Should not participate with their athletes in the athlete’s sport (Section 1206 ).
In accordance to Section 1209 regarding non-school competition (leagues, camps, clinics,
clubs, tournaments, 7 on 7) coaches or a group of coaches:
The C&CR allows the following:
1) Can supervise facilities.
2) Can assist with organization to include, but not limited to: assignment of officials, helping to secure
facilities, development of schedules, scheduling of facilities, assisting with registration process, helping
to secure equipment.
3) Can assist the primary coordinator or point of contact with the selection of coaches, but cannot assign
coaches to teams.
4) Can assist the primary coordinator or point of contact with the selection of players, but cannot determine
who can play on what teams.
5) Can distribute information regarding the details of the non-school event for informational purposes.
Distribution of such materials should be in accordance to the policies and procedures of the local
school district regarding non-school activities.
6) Can collect registration fees for coordination purposes only. No checks may be made payable to
the school or the coach and no funds shall be deposited in any school or coaches account.

And ATP was also right. It is 7th grade and beyond where no contact is allowed.

So the job that brings in more $ is the side job? Always a giggle when I see the "real" moniker attached to the daytime gig when it comes to coaches of both HS and Club --

Do club coaches that work full time in school and coaching bring in more money? Just the time factor alone would leave me to believe that isn't probable.

If club coach has 3 U11+ teams (or 1-2 with director level responsibilities), then yes ... That coach is making more $ at Club than teaching/coaching HS

3 teams at lets say 18K per team is approx 54K, that is assuming they are making 1500/month per team. --I know a few that make $800 per.

I still believe teaching salary plus coaching stipend beats that. Plus you get vacation, sick time, and summers off. (health insurance) I will stick with that teaching/coaching is the real gig.  Laughing

I am not any of the 3, so I really can't say what each one considers the real job.

Sounds like either way, if they are coaching, teaching and doing club soccer, they have zero life, but making some decent cashola doing what they enjoy.

Yessir ... absolutely agreed!

Having been a teacher and worked in coaching, administration and director roles in the competitive soccer world ...

Any coach at a major club will earn $1400-$1800 per U11+ team per month. $400-$800 for youth academy teams. Extra $2,000-$4,000 per month for Director roles.
