The next Sophomore, Junior or Senior HS girl I hear tell me that they would like to stop playing HS Soccer so that they can train 2 more nights a week and drop any other extracurricular activities such as track, basketball and homework, and play the same basic competition that they are now playing at ECNL, will be the first.

Only ones I've known who have stopped playing HS soccer, or who are considering doing so is because of the HS coach.  Be it:
. Coaches personality, takes the fun out of playing
. How much they ride the players about wanting HS to always be first
. Coaches ability or lack there of
. Style the HS plays and increased risk of injury

As you said, never seen one quit because they wanted to train for club 2 more days a week.

In every boys YNT press release the USSF always makes a point to say how many of the players are in the DA and it is pretty much 100% these days.

Of course it hardly surprising that the USSF primarily picks YNT from its own league. The USSF has driven the DA to be the place to play for those boys aspiring for YNT. We must fully expect them to do the same for the girls. They will favor candidates from DA over those in ECNL all day long......

From my experience on the boys side......DA is a personal choice and there are plenty of boys that choose not to play High School soccer or other sports. I expect that the girls will figure it out similarly over the next couple of years.

DA is only for the most dedicated players. These players want to practice 4-5 times a week with their DA team. My son had a choice between FCD Premier team or Solar DA. He chose DA because training 2x times a week was not what he wanted out of soccer. Conversely we had a DA player who wanted to be kicker for American football team. So he quit DA.

It is a choice.

Definitely a personal decision. DA wont be for everyone...nor should it be. Let's not pretend every player wants to play 4 years of school ball either. 2 games a week and practice every non game day can be a grind. I can think of quite a few very strong club players opting out of Jr or Sr year HS soccer. The kids shooting for top tier academic schools will have an easier time balancing only DA with other commitments vs playing HS soccer plus one or more 2nd tier club leagues.

DA is here.  Clubs are looking down the pipeline  all the way to 06s. Our DOC informed us DA is here coming fall. ECNL will be second tier for Texans, Sting, FCD , Solar we like it or not.
