GIRLS DA and the HS CHOICE to Play

Two years in high school soccer was not bad. DD liked her coach and players but was pulled and pushed from both sides the entire time which made it unpleasant at times. Neither were rude just seemed she was always in the middle of something decision wise.

Six years of hs soccer is almost over with my youngest dd. We plan to enjoy every last moment of her and her teammates before they head off to college!

Also, in talking with my oldest dd tonight who is back home from college, she shared some fond hs and club soccer memories. The experiences were positive, for the most part, but shaped her to become who she is now. Proud papa so thank you DFW soccer!

They talk and laugh with their HS friends about the challenges and the foolishness of some of the supposed 'adults' .  

Things like the time club coach told them they would not start if they missed practice for HS game.  6 of them got together and agreed to skip practice and played HS.  The following game he was nervous that the other team would score, the whole 5 minutes he held them out.  The one who thought it was funniest was the one who said 'What does he care if I come or not, he never plays me'.  

Like the time he had to ask one of them for jumper cables and a jump for his car after he had just made them run in practice for being late because of HS game.

What happens in May?

It's the end of the season finale and Bige reveals his true identity.....the love child of Tatu and KW.

CrazySP -- In May, droves of the LH/ECNL kids will come out to the bigs by the hundreds to tryout for the ECNL/DA teams respectively.

Doesn’t DA play thru summer showcase thus none of them can look around until July right?

Tryout will be scheduled in the spring. Players will now their destination before those summer playoff tournaments.

Did I miss anything? Sounds like the same old song and dance still goin on.

After this season of DA non-sense vs. ECNL vs. LHGCL, if there aren't 100's of LHGCL showing up to the ECNL & DA tryouts, I would be shocked.
From what I've witnessed, U18/19 level, DA sucked the wind out of ECNL in North Texas.  Non-DA clubs at the ECNL level spanking ECNL"DA" clubs across the board (Houston/ SA/ etc).  Not an even match with the transfer of talent.  And even crazier, the quantity of verbal-commits at the U16/17 level has affected the play even further.  4-5 starters not showing at any out of town particular event, it makes a difference.  I don't see how a parent could pay full price LHGCL for any club if they knew how much talent is gone from there at this point, it's almost robbery?  I'm embarrassed I didn't realize the level of effect it was going to have on various leagues.  Obviously it wasn't advertised, for that exact reason, club dues.  But then again, no one knew true "DA" effect until it happened. (except maybe Ern)
I guess this post is frustration seeing the changes from Age pure- to adding DA, etc, but I hope younger parents can follow the changes and guide their DD's accordingly.

I think that a lot of people would probably agree with you on the point I bolded, other than coaches and clubs. Not sure how they can make DA & ECNL work w/o significant #'s of lesser teams (LHGCL, etc.) paying full price?

Would love to hear the perspective from some of the coaches or club representatives on the board relative to costs at different levels of play.

Prices will not change and will probably increase until parents at that level choose not to pay those prices. At this point, parents pay the inflated prices only empowering the clubs to make no changes.

It works both ways. I’ve seen independent clubs raising their prices piggy backing on the sudden success in putting teams into LHGCL. It is a system that thrives on exclusivity and ignorance of parents with plenty of money to spend.

I have heard DA was in the neighborhood of $1000 less than ECNL In addition I heard several NTX kids received scholarships from US Soccer based on need. Pretty impressive step forward by US soccer and those DA clubs.

So with all of the wisdom and experience on this board. What would you do if you had 07's or 08's since one group is halfway through their first year of select and the other dives in next summer? What age do you speculate being key to be at with big 3 DA or ECNL (depending on your view)?

Work on her ability to hold the ball and take on players.

She will be competing against mostly boys that will increase her speed of play.

I would go as far as saying 2,000 dollars cheaper. Club and uniform fees.

My DD played a lot of futsal from the age of 10 years to 14years of age.

I'd say that if it is your kid's goal to compete at the ECNL or GDA level, I would have them positioned at a club that offer those platforms by the U12 year.  And it'd be ideal to have her on a team where she will stand out that year leading into U13 tryouts.
