Playing Select and Recreational Soccer Empty Playing Select and Recreational Soccer

Post by Sagen0810 26/07/18, 08:23 pm

I have heard there is a rule against playing both select soccer and recreational soccer.  My guess is it must have something to do with being on two North Texas soccer assiociation rosters.  But I can’t find this rule.

I’ve also heard there is no rule, it is just frowned on.

If someone could confirm, or better yet point me to where to find out, that would be awesome!!  (My kiddo really wants to keep playing with his friends for games where there isn’t a conflict...)

Pretty sure that's age specific... Once they hit U11, it's via contact.

Someone with more knowledge needs to confirm though.

You cannot play select and recreational, its one or the other but, you can play in non-sanctioned leagues like indoor. I believe it boils down to being registered to only one team at a time.

See rule 4.2.1

4.2 REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS

4.2.1

Youth players may only be registered with one NTSSA sanctioned team at any given time during
the soccer year excluding co-ed teams. The soccer year will coincide with the soccer year of the
USSF.

If you want to dig thru the bylaws you can find them here:

Note that PSA [http://www.psaplano.org/] (not to be confused with PYSA) is an unsanctioned outdoor league that among other things is surprisingly well run.

That is, save for the fact that the skill levels can vary tremendously. They do a great job being a home for "select but not quite competitive" teams -- that is, when you want to build your own roster of friends and don't want to get the random kids assigned to you by your local association.

Should one of your friends play competitive soccer, so be it -- there's zero prohibition. (thus the fact that skill levels can vary tremendously). As such, the best divisions/teams usually have 4+ competitive players on them.

Oh, and as a bonus: Their leagues are grade-level and not "age pure".

PSA does their best to band teams into different divisions, too. The 7th/8th grade boys league this past year had 4 divisions, each division having 8-10 teams.

Disclosure: I coached my son's rec team from U6-U15 -- we moved to PSA at U14 and in general were happier there being able to build our own roster.

Remind me again why we need more leagues in NTX? Do we really need the Pit and now the U90c leagues?

I get that everyone needs/wants to make money but in an already saturated market how is this helping the sport?

That's already specifically implied in Fusion's post (assuming you aren't being snarky about the "l" being left out of US Club).

Various Y's sponsor leagues of highly varying quality, based on grade levels.

I was researching the PSA organization come to find out they offer school league soccer teams for 6th 7th and 8th grade. This should make alot of people happy in Plano ISD. This is a step.in the right direction. If the schools dont want to provide a platform this might be a good alternative for some positive growth.

Why, compete against volleyball and football. 7th and 8th graders will begin play in the spring with the schools. Let us know how it works out.

Every so often you get two teams with players having club experience and a soccer game will break out.

That's great, but the PISD kids aren't the ones who are lacking access and means, and thus under-represented in youth soccer in the US.

When the NFL Players Union kills the NFL with its stupidity surrounding our National Anthem and all the rules they are forcing upon the owners so they don't have to work, then Soccer will become America's game to watch for the masses.

The football being played today is not the game the founding football fathers intended.
