Re: Game of the Week
Last minute change at the fields. Rush vs Mckinney and Rebels vs Stars and Stripes. Rush won in PKs and Rebels won 3-1.

Re: Game of the Week
A had a chance to catch a few games this weekend and these are my observations:
City FC has a solid team. Spoke to a few parents and they said this was their first outdoor tournament against top competition. Team had a solid showing against Solar Mckinney. Could be a top D2 team.
Stars and Stripes is a legit team. I got a chance to catch the entire game vs Solar Mckinney and some against the Rebels. If it weren't due to some huge goalkeeping errors, they could of had a better showing. Dad on the team told me the goalkeeping was bad throughout the tournament. Bad time for the goalie to have a couple of bad games.
Rush had a solid tournament. Team plays with a physicality that is hard to match for most teams.
Solar Mckinney had a solid showing as well. Games against Stars and Strips and City could be classic cases of overlooking the competition. They were down in both of those games but came back. They did seem to struggle with Stars and Stripes and City's speedy players. In my opinion, Mckinney still played the best soccer of the teams in the SuperCopa bracket.
Rebels.... are the Rebels. I think they would of had a tougher match up against Mckinney but for some reason, the original semi's were changed and they got to face Stars and Stripes. Either way, they did what they had to do.
What's even more exciting, all of the semi-finalist are signed up for the Bobby Rhine. Should make for an interesting tournament.

Re: Game of the Week
Bobby Rhine brackets looked to be overall competitive between the teams. Anyone see any of the games? Several rematches between the above mentioned teams. Quarterfinals looked lopsided except for Solar McKinney and Stars and Stripes and after that competitive all the way through with Tigres taking the Final.

Watched the final. Weather (wind) was a factor but Tigres (Mex) had a very balanced attack and were able to neutralize McKinney's big BB.

Re: Game of the Week
So if this weekend gets rained out, when will they make up the last of the games? Will they carry over into next season, or will they try to find an open weekend between now and then to play them?

Re: Game of the Week
I honestly believe its pushed til next season. The weekend of the 14th, there's the Dallas Cup Qualifier and a good amount of D1 and D2 teams are listed as playing. After that weekend, its XMAS and New Years weekends.scottytx wrote:So if this weekend gets rained out, when will they make up the last of the games? While I'm on the subject....what's with some of the teams entering the Foro Dallas Cup Qualifier? Will there be separate brackets like the League Challenge Cup, or will it be a free for all like the Bobby Rhine?
Should be interesting to see how FC Dallas Premier holds up against Rebels and Solar Mckinney. It looks like Mckinney has Rebels' number after defeating them in Classic D1, Bobby Rhine and the Southhampton Cup down in College Station. Can't count out Stars and Stripes as well. They defeated Rebels and have had two really close games against Mckinney. They have showed they can play with some of the top teams.

Re: Game of the Week
It looks like 16 teams now for the Foro. What did you think was different about some of the teams entering as it looks like D1 and D2 level teams for the most part. It will be interesting to see how the brackets are sorted based on the entries.
I see the usual top 4 making it in to the quarterfinals but the second group of 4 could be very interesting. It will be interesting to see how Stars and Stripes does based on the results from the Bobby Rhine they were very competitive and looked to have fixed some things from the previous meetings with the Rebels/McKinney. Will also be interesting to see how Elite United, OKC Energy, FC Dallas Blue, Texans and FC Legends end up. Should be a competitive tournament and one to keep an eye on over the weekend. The Semis and Finals will be good!

Re: Game of the Week
I imagine that the brackets will have to be seeded, as this is a qualifier and not just a trophy tournament. Luck of the draw will help.
The Semis will be the games to watch, as both finalists make the Cup.
Guest players are also allowed, so couldn't Solar/Texans/FC Dallas insert some DA/DP players to help out their clubs chances?
Has anybody ever played on these fields before? I have yet to hear anything good about them, but it is a small sampling.

That would be against the DA rules and could result in player suspension.

Re: Game of the Week
I’ve heard lots of complaints about how Classic has handled this. They knew they were screwing this tournament and the Classic League teams that are in it, and did it anyway. Literally told them, “We don’t care what you’re doing outside of Classic.”

Re: Game of the Week
And now this causes the Qualifying Tournament to be played over 2 weekends. Last game of group play as well as knockout stages will be played on the 22nd. Several teams backed out of the tournament due to this. From what I've heard, the tournament is giving full refunds to the teams that backed out.... At least they got that rightDoubleDown wrote:I’ve heard lots of complaints about how Classic has handled this. Re: Game of the Week
And with rain forecast late Thursday/early Friday, this might not yet be over.
At least the tournament plays on turf fields, so they should be good to go whenever they can finally start.

Classic can't worry about outside tournaments. They have enough on their own plate. Why would they even consider it?
It'll be funny when classic cancels due to the rain, but the tournament (on turf) goes on.

I cannot speak for Boys Classic, but Girls Classic has a list (very limited) of tournaments which are allowed as excuses for not playing. It looks like, in rescheduling rainouts for 09's they did schedule around Vegas Cup.

I wonder what the weather will be in the Spring if we will have more rain. Will we be playing into the summer months when school is out?

No weeknight games...no lights at the fields.
I would have thought they would rent portable lighting and have night games by now!

Money and margins are a fine line this season. Any extra spend goes into the red column. Knowing the limitations will the value of signing up for all these corner lot leagues be a bought product. You flood the market sometimes it can bite you in the behind.

Re: Game of the Week
Wow, pretty amazing, I didnt see that final until just now.
Outside of just looking at the standings, I am still trying to find out if there were any good games or big upsets in the Michael Brown. I saw one of the brackets had only three teams with two of the teams having to only play three games and one of the teams having to play four. Always a good tournament to get an early gauge for the spring season.
