Classic League Challenge?

Classic League Challenge?
New to the club soccer world and I am not too sure what to expect out of the upcoming classic league challenge tournament.
So here are my questions:
Do the bottom 6 teams of classic d2 have to challenge if they wish to hold their spots? (kind of a ridiculous follow up question but how often do those bottom 6 re-challenge)?
How does the bracketing for the challenge work? what determines who plays who and such? (My son's team finished top 5 in PPL D1 and I'm just curious who we may play)
I saw that it was a two weekend event, does that mean the team has to win all their first weekend games to be able to go to the second weekend?
How many teams are typically in the challenge?
Is there anything I'm missing? Something important that I should know about it?
I know there are a lot of questions but I'm just anxious about the tournament and would like to know more about it! Thanks for the help.

Re: Classic League Challenge?
Congrats on a nice season and good luck in the tournament. I'm going to give you my best guesses since nobody has taken a shot at this yet. My 07 team qualified the first year and didn't have to enter the tournament last year and again earned a bye this year so I may be a bit off.
Yes, the teams that finished in the bottom of Classic D2 have to challenge to get back into Classic. I would think that a majority would try.
The League will rank all of the teams that are in the tournament. Groups will then be determined evening out the groups. Imagine 16 teams entering and 4 groups total. Top 4 teams are each ranked #1 in their group, next four teams go into a group each and so on. Teams will consist of those trying to get back into Classic or top teams from the Plano Premier and Arlington Premier Leagues. Seedings are up to the tournament, but a good guide to the team rankings can be found here once you know the teams entered
I believe how it works is somewhat depending on the number of teams. Last year in round one all the group winners were placed directly into the Classic League. On the second weekend, teams are reseeded and regrouped and the team that won that weekend received the last bye.
I'd guess about 20, last year there were 19 split into 5 groups for the first weekend of the tournament. Five teams from the tournament made it into Classic.
Anything can happen in a tournament so good luck. You can find last years round one tournament results here.
Hope this helps!
