Anyone getting an uneasy feeling about teams training as usual with the rising COVID numbers in the area?

Did not expect the huge spike in cases in Dallas and Texas as a whole.

Business as usual for the NTX club soccer scene.

Do people really think out of town college showcases are going to happen in 2020?

Just about every expert alive has said there would be a spike when we began to reopen things, and it will get worse in the fall. LH, ECNL, and the other leagues just hope things don't really fall apart until they get paid. If we finish the fall season, I will be happy but very surprised.

The major benefit the ECNL and travel tournaments provie is the college identification opportunity through the showcase events. With those events being doubtful this year, and even if they occur, many college coaches will be restricted on travel. Seems like this is more of a racket this year than ever.

The more we learn, the better. This article seems to suggest that outdoor training isn't likely to be all that risky. It's large indoor gatherings for longer than 15 minutes in poorly ventilated areas that should certainly be avoided.

To my knowledge, there has yet to be a single case of soccer player-to-opponent transmission anywhere in the US. I would think tournaments with packed fields and teams huddled together all day may not be a good idea. But the WSJ article makes me feel more positive about training and league play happening this fall...

DISD cancels summer training until further notice.

Parish Episcopal won’t hold workouts next week because of rising COVID-19 numbers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Arlington Martin, Denton Braswell, Denton and Sanger ISD are others in D-FW that have halted workouts at some point.

Clemson announced Friday that 14 football players tested positive for the coronavirus over the past week, bringing the total number of cases on the team over the past month to 37

Div. III Bowdoin, UMass Boston cancel fall sports during pandemic

Canadian university fall sports championships canceled, play canceled through December in three of four conferences

This seems to be a reasonable path forward based on all that we now know about the virus. Given that there seems to have been zero mass infections at any youth sporting events in the US (or globally, for that matter), it seems we should focus on the things that significantly contribute to the spread like large gatherings or close indoor contact of more than 15 minutes. One size response doesn't fit all activities or locations.

If someone is uncomfortable, high risk, or lives with high risk family then they can obviously also make the very reasonable personal decision to avoid unessential things that data shows to be very low risk (but certainly not entirely risk-free), such as going to parks, youth sports, or other outdoor activities.
