Sting Hilton vs DTS should be the best game, at least in my opinion.

I'd guess that eventually all teams will score a goal or two. Over the course of the year teams wear down or when they get stuck in a no mans land when it comes to their placement for next year the intensity can fall off. Man I hope every team scores.

Looks like in D1 2 teams are scoreless and 3 teams have only managed to score 1 goal to date. Still have a lot of games left but it will certainly be interesting to see what shakes out. Could end up being a very long year for some of these teams.

When the bottom five start playing each other...then everyone will have scored
I feel confident over the course of an 18-19 game season, no team will have 0 GF at the end
But  a couple teams will have less than 5 IMO

LHGCL Predictions Week 5 Empty D1 Games of interest

Post by herradura 04/10/13, 08:55 am

D1 games of interest and a few question marks:

LP Keegan vs Solar Red: This usually would not be a game of interest by any means, but the historically impenetrable Solar Red seems to be giving up goals (at least in the first half) to weaker opponents. Is this a tactic to give the team some challenge or just happenstance? If it is the latter, Keegan should bring their "A" game and present the reigning champion of the girls soccer universe with some stressful situations.

Sting Hilton and Dallas Texans South: DTS is lacking. Lacking of drama and lacking of losses. This team comes in as the favorite. Sting Hilton (although volatile at times) has the ever solid Mendoza base and some shiny new additions to give them an extra edge. Can the new coach compose his girls against a rock solid team and compete? Or will DTS blow them out? I think GrandTX called this one right - the best game of the week.

Sting West and Dallas Texans: Evenly matched teams IMO. Sting West historically has a strong midfield, plays the entire field and has several potential outside scoring threats. DT03 is historically defensive in nature and has one main scoring threat (unless she was released affraid ). This probably will not be the most exciting game to watch as it could very easily be a 0-0 outcome. Nonetheless, it is worth mention.

FCD Red and FCD Blue: Interesting inter club matchup. FCD Red has taken down both top Sting teams and has only been beaten by LP Elite. They have a solid midfield, some speed on the outside and some size up top that can finish and have been the spoilers of D1 thus far. FCD blue is a hard working team that can grind down opponents with strength and size and then strike with speed at opportune times. Should be a fun one to watch.

LHGCL Predictions Week 5 Empty Re: LHGCL Predictions Week 5

Post by GrandTXSoccer 04/10/13, 09:56 am

Pretty good breakdown of those games.

I agree that LP Keegan is going to bring their A game but then again I think everyone does against Solar Red right now. I think some of the teams actually smell a little blood in the water so their confidence is much higher. I've watched Keegan play a few times and they have some size and aren't afraid to use it. They will get the ball down the field on Solar Red at that point it's just matter of winning the 1v1 battle and taking a good shot against whomever Solar is playing at keep. The little that I've seen of Solar, they almost remind me of the old OU and Loyola Maramount basketball teams of the 80's. They really didn't care if you scored, they simply wanted you to shoot or score so they could get the ball back so they could go score. Obviously they still play good defense, I just think this is the one team that really doesn't care if you score because they know they are going to score 2 or 3 for your 1. Should make for an interesting game.

I agree with you on the DTS/Hilton game. I think I predicted a tie in this game but that's primarily just to try to pick an upset for the pickem contest. DTS has been down in two of their first three games so far but has either found a way to come back and win or tie. That's just what this team does. Talented and resilient bunch of girls. Hilton has been playing better but still can't seem to break back through that top team bubble, however they are plenty talented to do so. If it wasn't so early and quite possibly cold and raining I might make my way over to watch but alas I will leave it to others to watch this one.

Sting W vs DT03 is probably the second most evenly matched game. It really all depends on which Sting W team shows up. They have (at least in my opinion) one of the most underated forwards in the 03 group that can score in bunches against almost anyone, but sometimes as a team they just play to the level of their competition making for some difficult games that probably don't need to be. DT03 is a solid team that has shown the ability to stay in games and find a way to win, that's a pretty good trait to have as a team. Talent wise I'd say Sting W wins, however it's hard to argue with DT03's ability to win games like this. The only thing I can guarantee is that the sidelines will be loud and entertaining.

Two teams I'm interested to see how they perform are LP Rush and Dfeet because both are coming off tough Septembers. Now I don't expect Rush to beat FCD Gold but they are team that not more than 4 or 5 months ago was a solid Top 10 team and but have really struggled as of late. Same thing goes for Dfeet, I don't expect them to beat FCD Prem because I think FCDP has improved quite a bit lately but this is a game that 3 months ago probably would have been a 1-1 and fairly evenly matched.

The FCD R vs FCD B and the LP Elite vs LP Barnes games should be fun to watch. Anytime teams from the same club face off there's always bragging rights to be had.

Lowest number of goals scored for the full U11 season since the league went to the D1 super group:

2012-2013: 6 goals
2011-2012: 7
2010-2011: 4 (and another team had only 5)
2009-2010: 11
