We need 2-3 teams to round out the U14 brackets - there may be room for negotiation of the entry fee. If interested, please email lhgcl-roundp@swbell.net.

The weather is supposed to be perfect next weekend - 60's and 70's. Great chance to get the game in shape before Spring season kicks off!

Currently @ 13 teams:

ANDROMEDA FC 00G
AZTECS FC LADY AZTECS FC 00
DALLAS TEXANS 00 NORTH
DALLAS TEXANS 00G FTW
FEVER UNITED 00G
FC DALLAS 00G BLUE

I can only speak for myself here, but maybe offering some assurance that there will be some variety in the scheduling might help. "Lower" level teams may want a shot at those higher up the food chain so to speak. Not a lot of excitement in say a D3 team playing all of the same teams in a tournament that they already play in league play. Some interesting outcomes in the recent Legacy tournament should support that point.

2-3 Teams Needed for U14's @ :GHCL Roundup Empty Spring Roundup schedule?

Post by tex_gator 11/02/14, 12:33 pm

Schedules have been posted for the U14 bracket and I am surprised how the schedules have been laid out.
Bracket A 3 teams (3 games 1 against B)
Bracket B 3 teams (3 games 1 against A)
Bracket C 3 teams (2 games)
Bracket D 4 teams (3 games)
With the winner from each bracket advancing.

Wouldn't make more sense to have two 4 team brackets and one 5 team bracket.  This would allow for all teams to play 3 bracket games and then you would advance 3 bracket winners and a wild card? Is there only one formula that the soccer world knows how to schedule - # of teams must be divisible by 4.

Yeah, I think its pretty crappy of the tournament to give all the teams except the 3 in Bracket C 3 games and then they only get 2. Are they going to give a price break for only getting 2 games? This was not handled well and will reflect badly on this tournament in my opinion. It will give other teams pause before entering it next year when they think they could only get 2 games for the price of this tournament.

Could be other potential new team(s) still in the mix.

The bracketing doesn't make any sense.

Have you considered starting a separate thread? It would be interesting to see some polling and predicted outcomes of this weekend's tournament. Looking at the schedule as it stands this morning, the teams are sprinkled through the brackets that should offer some good challenges for the lower ranked teams. Good luck this weekend!

The tournament came through and added another team into Bracket C and all teams now have 3 games.

I'm sure someone will start that thread, but it won't be me. I personally can't complain about the mix of teams on our schedule and the challenge that presents. Of course, I may be singing a different tune if we end up getting pummeled, lol. I would certainly understand a concern that a couple of the teams could have with playing a late Friday game followed by an early Sat. game against an opponent who didn't play the night before. Then on the backend, a team could have to run the gauntlet of three games on Sunday to win it all. I guess the best you can hope for is that there are no major inequities.

2-3 Teams Needed for U14's @ :GHCL Roundup Empty Re: 2-3 Teams Needed for U14's @ :GHCL Roundup

Post by DalWild 13/02/14, 12:06 pm

I appreciate everyone's comments, critical and supportive, and wanted to address some of the concerns expressed, partly as a mea culpa, as some of the wounds are self inflicted, but also to hopefully explain what occurred. Warning - long comment to follow.

We originally planned the tournament for Friday - Monday. Due to numerous concerns about various schools opting to be open Monday to make up for lost weather days, we shortened the schedule to wrap up Sunday. This compression made the schedule much more brittle, but also placed stress on field availability and referees.

Due to this compression and resource constraints, we were unable to field multiple flights - as it is, the last final games wrap up Sunday night @ 8:00. So we have teams from across the spectrum in a single flight, which will likely create some uneven games. In seeding, we did try to recognize this and try to give teams a chance for some measure of success in a game or two. We also had a couple of situations as we were sorting through the schedule where teams only had 2 games scheduled. When notified of the issue, I reached out to a couple of those to let them know we were working on addressing the issue and if it couldn't be resolved, I would offer a compensatory rebate, recognizing they would not get the same value for their fee as other teams.

Throughout the registration process, we asked all teams to let us know of conflicts due to games in other local leagues. We also made it clear those were the only conflicts we could hope to accommodate due to the compressed schedule. Some teams did notify of us of conflicts, others did not.

So, when the schedule was released earlier this week, we had numerous teams that had conflicts they had not informed us of (and at least one which I missed). So we posted a schedule, teams made plans, we revised the schedule, this revision then caused other conflicts, etc.

I see several posts on this thread and others where individuals have said, in essence, it is what it is, we may get spanked, but that's how we improve and I applaud that take. Though having been on the lopsided losing side, it sucks for us as parent, but my dd never gave it a thought. It's going to be a beautiful weekend after a pretty crappy few weeks, so hopefully, the schedule is set and we can move forward. If anyone wants to reach out to me directly, please feel free - lhgcl-roundup@swbell.net.

Finally, this opinion/explanation is mine as the tournament chair, not the league's or anyone else's, so if you have issue, please take it up with me.

Thanks

It was definitely a great weekend of soccer and luckily the weather was more "Springlike" for the "Spring Roundup". There were a few surprises, especially in the U-14 age bracket. It was great to see some different teams come out and compete.

I agreed some surprising results....Sporting Red (a Plano team) making it out of their group, beating FC Dallas Blue on the way, and giving Andro a tough game.

Just guessing but maybe Sporting had some nice guest players. Guest players or not Kudos to Sporting.

Yeah, I was thinking the same, but didn't wanna single any one team out. The competition was really evenly matched for the most part and it was fun to watch.

Maybe Sporting had some guest players, but maybe not. Sporting has some players that are D1 quality all day long. Take them lightly and they'll hang an "L" on your record. I NOT that surprised....and no....they are not my kids team.

I am familiar with this team and watched part of the fc dallas match. I only noticed one unfamiliar girl and I think she played 5 minutes. I also watched the andromeda game and they lost 1-0 on a corner kick. They are quite a team with some great talent and hope they can keep it together and not get picked apart
