Can't really blame the keeper for yesterday's game. The truth is, even most Brazilians will tell you that goalkeeping has never been a consistent strongpoint of Brazilian teams as nobody really wants to play the position growing up. I can think of maybe 1-2 good Brazilian keepers in 30 years.

I like what the article says...I've never played goalie, or even soccer for that matter, but what I teach my dd when she wants to play goalie/defense, is that her job is not necessarily to make the flashy save/steal, but to dribble the opponent into making a bad decision/shot. For kids at this age, playing away from the goal line (in my opinion) is a necessity because the goals are so disproportionately large that staying on the goal line gives the offense massive angles to exploit. Playing off closes off a lot of the angles and dribble the ball handler to do something they may not want to do.

Interesting...I tried to type "f o r c e s", but it keeps changing it to "dribble"...?
