Relocating From Charlotte - Advice on selecting a team/club Empty Relocating From Charlotte - Advice on selecting a team/club

Post by Harry Hotspur 03/04/15, 03:11 pm

We're relocating from Charlotte to Fort Worth this summer and looking for advice in finding a premiere team/club for our daughter (current U-13). There are a ton of good clubs/teams in NTX and we could use some help finding the right fit. How do teams/cubs in the Lake Highlands Classic League compare in terms of style of play, emphasis on development vs winning, over-the-top parents, and quality of coaching?

My daughter is comfortable playing anywhere on the field, but prefers LB.

PPL is a haul for someone living in Fort Worth area. Arlington premier is WAAAAY closer if you are looking for that.

What level of play is your daughter at in her current area and are you wanting to keep her at that level...?

Her team plays in the top division in North Carolina. Ideally she would like to continue to play at-level, but admittedly I don't don't know how her skill level translates to NTX.

Maybe first question is what distance are you not willing to travel for practices. Those can be 2-3 times per week and DFW traffic is unforgiving. What looks like a leisurely 25 mile drive... depending where you are headed and at certain times can be hell.

Quality teams and coaches can be found, but are they in that radius you will drive to?

In order of competitive level and coaching level. All NTX parents are over the top. Just find a team that practices close to home. Don't worry about driving for good games.

Thank you. Good advice. I think I had PPL and LHPL confused. LHPL is what I should have been asking about.

If you daughter is really good, U13 are trying out for ECNL clubs right now. Not sure when their rosters are full though or if clubs typically keep a few spots open for late comers.

My daughter is talented, but probably one step below ECNL. From FW we don't mind long drives for matches, but would prefer to be bit closer in for practices. Dallas Texans, D'Feeters, a couple of the Liverpool FC teams, and one of the Sting Teams (Moss Park) look doable.

Stronger man than me, a drive from Fort Worth to Moss park.... yikes. Seriously man, you DD will be in college before construction is done on 635.

Texans at Ross stewart is doable, Feet is not much further.

Driving from Fort Worth to Dallas in rush hour traffic would be a lot like driving from Rock Hill to Concord in rush hour traffic. Not really that far, but no way to avoid the traffic. FEVER practices in Keller, I believe they are closer to Fort Worth than the others.

If you would need to use I-35 from where you live to get to Keller, THAT drive is way worse than say I-30 to 161 (Farmers Branch). Texans also have a FW division.

Fortunately, you will have a lot of good options. Fever is a great team in D1 Lake Highlands and also has a D3 LH team. The Saints also have 2 teams in Tarrant County. One is D2 LH and the other D1 PPL. Both good teams. Fort Worth football club also has a D3 LH team. Arlington also has some options. The D'feeters have a D3 LH team that's very good and probably set to move up to D2 next year. LP Keegan has had some bad luck at the qualifiers for LH and play in PPL but they are good and as competitive as many of the LH teams.. As every one else mentioned, the Texans are in Farmers Branch and also have a few teams. Good luck in your search and welcome to Texas.

Dfeeters is a all girl club as well. We have found comfort knowing that sure we might not be the highest rank in the nation or north Texas area we are a all girls club. It gives our family a sense of girl power as I feel like girls aren't on the back burner to fund the boys side of the club. That's just my two cents.Best of luck  and welcome to Texas and BtW the summer heat is no joke. North Texas  soccer has several options in several different levels. Hope you are able to find a spot

What is the best way to go about making contact? Reach out to the DOC/ED or go directly to the team/coach? Thx.

Any idea where you are moving to in Fort Worth? We live in Keller and very familiar with the relocation stuff since I am retired Navy having moved my family from Virginia, to Florida, to Mississippi, then to Texas. If you would like to chat email me at troygriffith96@gmail.com
