What do 'warm-up' mean? Empty What do 'warm-up' mean?

The summer is upon us, and we will be asked to arrive early (30 minutes, 45 minutes, an hour Shocked ) to 'warm up'.  I know nothing of soccer, but I like to think I know a little bit about fitness/performance.  Is this something that is done because it's always been done or is it actually beneficial?

I'm specifically referring to days that are 90+ or 100+  sunny .  I'm specifically referring to the 2nd or 3rd game of the day.  Do they really need to warm up for each game?

Warmup no, loosen up, yes. It's a matter of having the body prepared to compete, not such a concern at the younger ages, older ones run higher risk of injury.

on warmer days the girls loosen up faster and spend more time on the ball. arriving early assures none get stuck in traffic or that little susie doesn't run straight from the car to center circle for the whistle. kids need to warm up mentally as well.

A good warm up includes good stretching & some mental tactics specific to the team you are facing.

Are you talking dynamic stretching or old school static stretching?

Dynamic stretching is better to reduce joint injuries.
