Would it make any sense to move tryouts to match the calendar year ? Imagine if you would December becomes open season, tryouts are the first weekend in January verse July 1. Season would be same as spring and Fall and we could take the month of July off to let our kids rest, vacation and recreate. I am not sure why it is July 1 in Texas except the school year aging system and I am guessing soccer needed a home window of time to not compete with other sports. I think it is safe to say it is here to stay and we can now make decisions that make sense. Having our kids outside in 100 degrees and baking in the sun is ludicrous. I cannot think of a reason not to move it...

Great idea, what comes with new is change.

Interesting concept soccer4fun. The key might be to ensure limited impact on high school soccer for the older players, but your idea would be worth evaluating. Any thoughts from the posters in what other states do or plan to do?

Changing the signing date would be semantics for the most part. By moving to Jan 1, you would only bring the craziness of Open Sessions & Tryouts into the already hectic holiday season. Then state cup, regionals & nationals would get pushed back to November-February all of which would be tough with weather factoring in.

Once you make it through qualifying then July becomes pretty laid back. Our team has been off for 6 weeks now with one tryout on July 1.

As with most things, people don't like change but a year or two from now you won't know the difference. Everyone will be settled in with the new system and all will be right with the world again.

6 weeks with no soccer?!? How does your household function without soccer?
