Academy Changes

New kid in town... just had a question about Academy soccer.  I know that there are no contracts signed at the academy age, but is it okay for a player to start the season with one coach and then decide to move to another coach within the same club?  I know when you make the payment at the beginning of the season, you have to pick a coach to sign up with... Just curious how that works with the larger clubs like FCD, Solar, and Sting.  Hard to know at the beginning of the season who will be the best fit for my kid... you know?  

you can move anytime for any reason in academy. You can move within a club from team to team and you can guest play for any other team during the academy season. You could play for Sting at the 10:00am game and solar for the 2:00pm game, then go to texans or kicks/feet/spirit for the 5:00pm game. Kids do it all the time.. The only restriction you have is how many academy jersey kits you want to purchase or how pissed the coach will get when you do it. There is nothing they can do to stop you though.. As long as they have your monthly dues are current the coach won't say crap and the "guesting" coach will just be happy you are there to fill a much needed spot when she/he is short a player. As an academy player you can basically play as many games in as many leagues as you want for the price of 1 coach and 1 league. Good luck!

TXFutbal is not entirely correct. Some leagues have restrictions on playing in same age group and/or division. Of course, those rules aren't really followed or monitored.

there are no player cards at the academy level and no way for any of the leagues to check rosters/kids. My DD played for 3 different academy teams in UAL, Primetime, and U90 this past year. Parents have all the power in academy.. power doesn't shift to the club/coach until you sign a contract at U11

Incorrect. Primetime and Pit leagues are US Club sanctioned and there are UC Club player cards. Leagues just didn't check them or enforce the guest paperwork because 'it's academy'...

You are correct and I am wrong.. US Club cards are required for Primetime and U90 however guest play is allowed.
