Great tournament this weekend. The competition was tough and everyone brought their A game. Good group of soccer players in the 09 division.

Two D'Feeters teams went to pk's in the semis. Edmond, with only two subs, was just worn out by their semifinal.

The big surprise was DKSC Bones going to pk’s with Voutier. Great game!! Edmond with 2 subs is not that big of an excuse. We have some top teams in NTX that bring their A game at tournaments with 1 or 2 subs.

Looks like Solar South missed out on the great competition in Dallas this weekend. They steamrolled the top U11 division in Houston scoring 28 goals and only conceding 1 goal in four games. Seems to be a difference in the depth of talent between the North and South Texas. Or, maybe North Texas players are pushing each other, training more and thus developing faster?

It's always been like that, NTX has always dominated STX. Good job SS

Whether it was lack of subs or not, Edmond clearly ran out of steam.

Well is always hard to not play with your usual starters. It shows a lot for teams to still sign up for a hard tournament without their normal starters

I have been around a long time and have never understood why the Houston area, with almost as much population as North Texas, has never developed much depth in female club soccer. After all, the Texans (the Kline Texans) started there, it has roughly the same economics as DFW, and a large soccer-loving Hispanic community. San Antonio and Austin counted together, although very large as well, is a little more understandable. I guess good competition, which we certainly have here, and especially in 09's, begets better teams, used to the pace of competitive play.

Houston has never been good at the early ages. The training focus is different and they don't consolidate talent until much later in the game. Nobody wants to drive from Katy to Spring for 10-yr old girl's soccer.

At one time Challenge formed older girl's teams who could play with anybody.

Now a bunch of old biddies run youth soccer there. Challenge won't play Dash, Dash won't play Albion and so on. So you'll never see all their top teams in one single tournament. It's ridiculous.

That, and it's still a softball town at heart.

5050, that actually makes a lot of sense! I grew up in Houston and my daughter has played in tournaments there... your explanation explains a lot!

Bottom line is that NTX players (with parents support) are allot more committed to the game, and improving their own skill set. The love of the game shows in the NTX players, unlike STX....commitment-commitment-commitment

Curious when both FBR and national rankings will update. I would expect some shifting...

Wouldn’t expect much change in FBR but the national rankings could change.

I think both FBR and the national rankings will continue to be quite different especially since not all of the top teams played in the Dallas Open this past weekend. SS played in Houston, Colvin in Colorado, Grado, TX Spirit Khoury and other top 10 teams did not play because it was a holiday weekend. Bottom line, I believe we will see several (but different) shifts in both rankings.

They played the 8th best 09 team in South Texas, and the 24th, 28th, and 58th best 07 teams in South Texas (all per YSR). Pretty poor competition, even for Houston.
That said, the girls completely took care of business and smashed everyone that was put in front of them.

Teams that SS played against are ranked accordingly:
http://events.gotsport.com/events/schedule.aspx?eventid=69211&FieldID=0&applicationID=5261060&action=Go (Click on the team’s name.)

Colvin played against these teams. Again, click on the team name and you’ll see their ranking.
http://events.gotsport.com/events/schedule.aspx?eventid=70111&FieldID=0&applicationID=5068522&action=Go

Remember, both teams played up a year. So, I imagine some of these teams had players with longer gaits and bigger bodies.

timmyh- as you said, they played one 09 team, but they played three 08 teams, not 07’s.

For what is worth, I've always thought Gotsoccer rankings are pretty worthless (just a marketing tool to get teams to play a lot of tourneys and leagues that are affiliated with gotsoccer).
www.Youthsoccerrankings.us is much more accurate (uses a computer algorithm to compare all recorded scores and margin of victory).
