Heard from a reliable source tonight that Defeeters have decided to for-go Lake Highlands league for boys Dallas Classic league instead. Must have been one heck of a sales job to parents by Gerald.

Girls can play in the boys classic league vs boy teams?

The Boy's Classic League is now gender neutral? Good for them.

I imagine Lake Highlands will be revamping their rules soon enough. What if the top 10 girl teams were to try out? It would dilute the girls division, it would rob the boys of several spots and everything would be in disarray. LHGCL would lose money and credibility, I’d be surprised if they allow this for upcoming years.

Maybe they should let boys try out for the girls division too! Wouldn’t that be something? Wouldn’t this mean that a boys team could be coed now? Can someone decipher the rules and speak on this? I’m too lazy focusing on my beer to do it.

Can't really dilute LHGCL more than it is now. Plano Premier teams claim D1 byes and hordes of teams now play up an age group. The rules are meaningless.

They should do it like basketball and make the girls play with smaller balls than the boys.

I personally dont really care. But should everyone hang up the cleats because the wait to be THE team to down the mighty Voutier team gets extended a bit?

I assumed the whole thread was a troll from the get-go. You know, with the coach being named Gerald and all. Fun with 1995-style message boards!

If coach thinks the best thing for development of his players is for them to play against Boys at U11 & maybe U12, it makes a heckuva lot of sense.  Play against boys for a year or two before puberty takes hold and makes too much of a difference.  No rules to prevent any of the players from playing up in U13 ECNL if they are capable at U12, so this may only be a 1-and-done deal.

Realistically, only the top 1 or 2 girls' teams in an age group are ever really good enough to compete with the top boys, so there's not going to be some mass movement of girl's teams going to ruin boy's leagues.

The only thing that prevented this from happening in the past was that LH byes used to mean something.  Those days are long gone with DA & ECNL down to U13 and all of the secondary leagues now in place.

Only thing this ruins is the egos of the parents of the boys' teams when they have to admit to their buddies that their little Messi's lost to a bunch of little Marta's.

Agree with this, but for different reasons. They need to take a serious look at a 10 team division instead of 20. At this age there is a wide gap between top 5 teams and 15-20. Does a really good team really benefit from a nineteen game season in which they could possibly only get one or two competitive games?

I can promise this isn’t the first team that gave serious thought to moving to the boys. They are just the first team to pull the trigger.

Exactly my point. And, even if they want to try to qualify for boys league, will the league allow them to?

A girls team a few years back were denied by the Chamber. Guess things have changed.

Yellow card, agreed in principal but the age group is deeper than 5. Much bigger difference between 10 and 20 than 10 and 1.

Possible, but not sure it’s that’s definitive.

We have seen the DA give U12 back to the clubs, I wonder if something similar will follow for Classic league. I would love it if Rush, Solar South, Solar Angelone and two or three other teams put together their own league and played each other 3 or four times. You could pull that off for a fraction of the cost and the players would get much more out of it.

I don’t know, really just thinking out loud. I can’t blame them for doing what they are doing. I can understand the rationale.
