Based on the large number of players-needed ads, it looks like dozens of teams are short of players to get to the magic number of 14 kids. You have to have 14 on the team or your team is out of even trying for Lake Highlands? Someone has been to this rodeo before. What is about to happen next? How does all this play out?

If they are still that way after July 1 they sign the first one or two warm bodies that show up. There are always some players looking for a team because they got strung along to the last day and then cut.

You have to have 14 players on your roster. You don't have to have 14 players that actually play.

So if a team is at 12 or 13 and is dead set on registering for the QT, it will sign the kid down the street who has never played soccer and doesn't intend to start now.

So if a team does that..then 12 or 13 have to foot the entire team bill? Wouldn't that make it quite expensive?

Most U11 Team Budgets are set for 12 paid players.... anything over 12 is extra to the Club/Coach or give some schilarship flexibilty...

I'm always curious about this kind of statement. The teams I've been a part of didn't budget their U-11 teams that way. We came as close as we could to budgeting the team based on how many players we had, and how many, if any, were scholarshipped. We may have had to fudge a bit based on a player coming from another team that we didn't get signed, or on a player we had that left at the last moment.

Some clubs have a very stringent budgeting process that doesn't give a team a lot of flexibility, i.e., you're going to pay X dollars for each player on your NTX roster, and others can be sort of hand's off, allowing for their teams to make adjustments, if you wanted to be "creative".

How did you arrive at the position that "Most U11 Team Budgets are set for 12 paid players...."? You may be right, I'm just curious how you arrived there.

Not much extensive research.. That is what Clubs/Coaches will tell you if you ask.... I'm not saying it is the only way to get it done.. Feet have always done it differently.. But when you get to a certain size of Club, it makes sense and you have to set a budget well before July 1st and the Club fees wont fluctuate... That number is almost across the board for the large clubs at U11... That does not mean that only 12 pay.. Shoot, they want all 15 or 16 to pay... But it does meet the budget and gives more profit and/or flexibility. Another example is one of the ECNL Clubs have set there ECNL Team Budget at 15 players...

For smaller Clubs and older teams that are playing in D2/D3 or elsewhere.. Those coaches will have much more autonomy to run the budget in a way that will best benefit his or her team....
