Will this change anytime soon?  Almost every tournament and the other league is 18.  Does this make sense?

  1. Roster Size: The maximum number of players on a roster in the Under 11 and Under 12 age divisions is sixteen (16).

The roster should not be higher than 16, why do you need 18 players,  they should have smaller rosters so the players can get more touches.

No it doesn't, all age groups up to U16 should have a max roster of 16. U16 and up should be 18.

18 players at U15 is appropriate, due to the increasing severity and rate of injuries. ACL, concussion, fractured back, turf toe, pulled hamstring, patellar tendonitis, inflamed growth plate in the heel, flu, etc.  The games at U15 are 80 minutes long- there will be enough playing time for all of them.

Rhetorical thought of the day:
Makes you wonder why we let them play if the severity and rate of injury is going up. Aren't we as parents supposed to protect our kids?

18 players on a U11 roster?  Think about what would be the outcome.  You'd either have a large majority (10-14) of those kids not getting enough time on the field during games OR you'd have 4-5 families destroying the team chemistry on the sidelines because their DDs are only getting 5 minutes of playtime each game.

Everybody comes on this board whining about better player development.  How will larger rosters help with that?  We need smaller rosters in North Texas, not bigger ones.

My dd's U11 coach, who I respect immensely, only took 15 to maximize everybody's playtime.....and minimize his headaches Very Happy

15 is a great number at that age.  With 15 capable kids the coach and the team can have a lot of fun and a lot of success.

What value would 3 more players add there?  Bigger is not always better.  The law of diminishing marginal returns anyone?

That is an easy answer - 3 more players would add more revenue for the club and possibily a bit more $$ for the coach. For the players it adds no value.

Agree, my son's coach a few years back, rostered 14 for both U11 & U12 and went to 16 at U13. It was a great experience for all and was easier to for the coach. Maybe a little less money for him, but he will tell you it was worth it.

If 16 girls is not enough, then the underlying issue may be the quality of girls on roster spots 13-16. Something is going to happen (injury, schedule conflicts) and those girls will get their chance. Win with development rather than bodies I say.

I'm curious, why are you thinking there should be more players on a U11 or 12 roster?  As the girls get older, I get it, but why would you want there to be more spots at the youngest ages?
