Didn't play particularly well. Didn't finish a few chances. They scored a nice goal on a header on a back post cross. Several of our girls left the game injured on some hard tackles from behind...no calls...just not our night.

What happened elsewhere? DTFW gave up 6? Feet lost again? Bussey lost to tighten up top. What happened with FCDP and Spence?

The big question: did East use CPP?   

Bussey has the hot FCDE team next week.

Definitely not our night. Within the first 10 mins our defender was shielding the ball for the goalie to get and the forward went down. Ref called a foul and the defender did not like the call and voiced her opinion about it and subsequently got a red card and ejected from the game, Played 10 the entire rest of the game. Didn't help that we had 3 out injured (one being the goalie), 1 sick and 2 others out so we had only one sub. Commend our girls for toughing it out...

Don't know if FCDE used any CPPs or not, didn't care to ask or really care at this point. We would have played just as hard if we were healthy and had a full roster as we did in the fall game where it was much a tighter game with a 1-0 outcome.

Spence got their first win 1-0 over FCDP. Any commentary?

A red card for talking back or unhindered to the goal? Neither seems appropriate (petty?) to what you described.

From my vantage point she did what she does best and protected the ball. I didn't see how the forward went down but the defender was in front of her so I can only assume it a case of some tangling? Not call worthy but that's JMHO.

Hi Back, I think you would be right about the poll. Wow, and wow. Do you think it was the night game, the weather, stars alignment?

I have no idea; a mixed bag for sure. The wind was very strong and steady from the south so any field at Railroad running north and south was certainly more difficult to deal with.

The original yellow card was most likely based on the combination of fouls commited during the run including impeding the forward then after properly shouldering the forward as she continued to move forward, illegally using her arm to push the forward to the ground. The second yellow card was for the defender's response to the call "You've got to be f@#*ing kidding me".

I was shocked that the impeding was called in the first place however as it seems the difference between "shielding" and "impeding" is rarely understood or enforced. In this case, I agree with the call as the defender purposely jumped into the path of the forward, in a direction away from the ball, while the ball was 10+ ft away from her and thus not within playing distance. However, in all fairness to the defender, she has probably done and seen the exact thing done a hundred times in LHGCL and never called (Thank you Law 5 - get out of jail free card).

DTFW did continue fighting and played hard despite the odds and should hold their heads up. I hope the injuries and sickness heal quickly so the girls can get back out and enjoy the game again.

P.S. Just for giggles, here's the writeup on Impeding vs Shielding:
Impeding the progress of an opponent
Impeding the progress of an opponent means moving into the path of the opponent to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction by an opponent when the ball is not within playing distance of either player. All players have a right to their position on the field of play, being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent. Shielding the ball is permitted. A player who places himself between an opponent and the ball for tactical reasons has not committed an offence as long as the ball is kept within playing distance and the player does not hold off the opponent with his arms or body. If the ball is within playing distance, the player may be fairly charged by an opponent.

Could it be more obvious??? Clearly that PPL D2 CPP was worth 5 Goals!!! Shame on LHGCL for implementing this rule!!!!

2 Things:

- Feet has really stumbled down the stretch (pun intended)

- SF is now clear of relegation

The red card is justified IMO there was a yellow for a foul like it or not. We are all at the refs discretion part of the game is learning to respect the refs decision if you can't hold your composure then you will start to see red. Needs to happen more often refs need to control the games especially with the emotions of 14 year old girls involved.
