How many subs is too many subs. i have seen teams with two complete two that just switch all at the same time.

That is my choice

3v3 = 1
Futsal = 2
7v7 = 2
9v9 =3
11v11= 4-5

The point is to play the game as much as possible. The less subs the better, allows for player movement all over the field and max playing time.

Start more teams to keep the roster size down.

I'd take 1 off each of your choices. Assuming you're speaking about academy. Come U13 or so, you'll need more than 16 to account for injury.

I just coached 2 different squads over 2 different weekends. Both played 7v7.

1 squad had 1 sub, the other had 4 subs. Way more playing time with 1 sub, and allowed for players to play basically all positions during the game and not completely disrupt continuity that was built. 2 subs would have allowed for stronger legs by the end of the tourney. Still finished strong though,

For a tournament, a general rule of thumb I've always used is half the number of field players. For league play, I would prefer 1 less.

If the format has even numbers, the math becomes too confusing for me so I slice one girl in half with a samurai sword.
