This is going to hit some nerves!!! This person has not participated in the sport and so all is opinion.

Yes, and Ann is.......... well, I can't say what she is on the board, other than being someone I long ago determined was abducted by aliens. Unfortunately, they didn't want her any more than we do so they brought her back.   

Wonder if one of her kids got cut from their team? Or if she did when she was a kid!

I don't get why so many on social media feel the need to bash it.

I get that non-soccer people don't get the nuance and beauty of the game. I don't get why so many feel the need to beat their chests about their dislike. You hear it everywhere, and they only come off as ignorant.

As for Coulter, I have no time for haters, no matter what the subject.

The way I figure it, since glitterbeam posted the link, at least 8 people have read Coulter's column, which means that Coulter has seen somewhere around an 800% increase in readership in the past 24 hours...

I had to do a double take when reading Ann’s article thinking at first it was her sense of humour. As I continued to read her article it seemed like the typical uninformed person on the beautiful game. Ignorance is no defense however, it exists. I dare say many that have grown to love the game I have followed for 40 years only did so after their child asked for a set of boots. I went off to watch the German US game this week and the comments from the bar stools of new watchers were the same as I remember 16 years ago here. The difference I did note less of those type comments and this may have been a guy that got talked into watching by his friends. In 1994 soccer was a bad word in Texas, in 2010 it was permissible to talk about but just not among too many people. This year it’s on all the sports stations it’s even on the non-sport stations. It’s loved by a lot more and yes there was 18 million watching the match but it was a round robin and if you add Univision and watching parties that number was closer to 30 million. What would happen if this team manages to beat Belgium. Hard to phantom however it is a strange game and this is a strange year. Strange with England, Spain, Italy and Portugal bowing out. Strange that a little county like Costa Rica looks like world beaters. My French and Dutch look ready to win it all, Mexico and Brazil are rounding into form. The US got to the final 16 enjoy it folks, if they get to the final 8 it will really get crazy around these parts. Heck if they get to the final 4 I bet Ann would become a fan. ( That isn’t happening even Klins knows it) Let’s enjoy the ride hope for a shock against Belgium. And enjoy the new fans even if some of them are ignorant. Anne better to be thought of as a fool then to speak and prove it.

I am 6th generation Texan, my kids who both are immersed in soccer are 7th generation Texan. Clint Dempsey is from my home town, which happens to be the oldest town in Texas. Our ancestors had and still have original land grants. If "Ann" would like to have a soccer discussion, she should get her driver to bring her prissy, yankee burro down here and we will have a real discussion over some shots of bad Tequila and Lone Star beer chasers.

I never never really understood how CL actually made a living the past 10-15 yrs spewing her hateful crap, but to steal the lyrics of Barbara Mandell's great song -I guess one can say "she was Tea Party, before Tea Party was cool".

Althoughly she aptly showcases her ignorance about sports, this article isn't about the WC, soccer, or any other US sport.  Its a continuation of her career long diatribe about whom she and others like her, consider who and who isn't a "real American". After all, one of her resentments of soccer is that "its foreign"... Wonder what her thoughts on golf, tennis, lacrosse, etc... Probably not suitable for print.

I found it interesting how she was able to use her unique insight to enlighten us about the internal views of liberal moms, African-Americans (has she ever been either?) as well as world's conspiracy to contaminate us with foreign, devious concepts such as the metric system.

I hated increasing her readership-- but it is important to see 1st hand what the crazies are saying. In fact, I saved the article (so I wouldn't have to download it 2nd time, and add to CL's hits), so my children could read for themselves how some "true Americans" view their country, others who live in it and those who don't.

My DD could barely finish the article before blurting out that the woman "was ignorant and hateful"! Indeed. Soccer has help provide yet another life lesson for my kids.
