Looks like they grouped all the LH teams from last year in the gold bracket, top contenders to get into LH in the silver bracket, and everyone else in the bronze. I agree that it looks pretty evenly "seeded".

I can see what SolarPower is talking about, I don't see what the point is of having all the LH's team in one bracket. If this tournament is to be used for seeding purposes you'd think you'd want it mixed up a little to kind of see how some of these teams that played in Plano and Arlington last year match up with some of the teams that either were relegated down to DII or DIII or didn't make the cut last year. Ultimately it's still friendlies so it doesn't really matter but I can see where some folks that are looking to seed teams would have liked to have seen a little better mixture. It's not like there's one team in the U12's that would be considered head and shoulders better than everyone else. It's all pretty darn even.

As I responded in an '04 thread...

The tournament is called King TuT (the "King" of the "Tune-up-Tournaments".  Clever wordplay by some guy Gunner9 knows really well...  Rolling Eyes ).  It's not King Seed, or the Seeding Showdown.

The purpose of King TuT is to assist teams with preparation for QT, not to assist LHGCL with seeding.  The fact that LHGCL uses King TuT for U11 QT seeding is just a by-product.

By the way, notice that I specifically said U11 QT seeding.

For U12 and above, LHGCL has historically seeded based off of previous years league results.  LHGCL teams that have to requalify are typically given the highest seeds, and then the remaining teams are typically seeded based off of placement in PPL/APL from the prior year.

So if you were looking for King TuT or Puma Cup to have an impact on seeding for U12 QT, it likely wouldn't happen no matter what the format or brackets.

Partially correct. TUT did mean Tune-Up tournament when it was founded, but FCD had nothing to do with it. They didn't even exist at the time. The King was added because it made for some really cool-looking T-shirts the first few years. I happen to know the guy who named it pretty well  Wink

Also, QT seeding was never a consideration in forming the TUT. The LHGCL then, as now, did a pretty good job of seeding the QT, using whatever means available including the good old "eye test" of trusted veterans. Puma cup was the only organized game in town at the time and some coaches were frustrated in having to get to the SF's before they got a competitive match. The TUT's premise was 4 competitive matches, no trophies. Parents hated the idea, but most coaches loved it.

The first few years we relied VERY heavily on input from the coaches and some trusted "eyes" in bracketing the TUT. It would have been nice to have had the FBR back then.  Very Happy

Close Richard, but no cigar. It was actually a Magic SC tournament prior to their merger with Dallas Inter.

Normally wouldn't respond to that, but since you're such a stickler for details....... lol!

Spot on BWG, although with LH's actually looking to try to get the Seeding Showdown up and running to use that tournament for seeding purposes I'd heard they were looking to do a little more eyeball test these days and less of the "since w,x,y,z were last four out of out of our league last year then they should be 1,2,3,4 seeds in QT." No idea if that's still the case or not but since that tournament imploded for all age groups not called u-11, I figured they might be looking more at live action this year. You are correct, the Tut is under no obligation to help them out, since they are trying to cut out Tut with their own little tournament.

Personally I would have liked to have seen the Gold and Silver mixed up a little because there's really no difference between the teams, playing a tune up against teams you played last year just seems like a giant waste of time to me. If you look at the rankings, Silver is actually the tougher division.

Sting Sanchez vs Sparta should be a good matchup (4th game.)
#1 PPL vs. #1 APL. Both teams trying to qualify for lake highlands

I think that's the feeling of most but you never know when it comes to these tournaments.

So what happened with Sting USA 03 playing up in the 02's? Did they decide not to play?

I agree with GrandTXSoccer. Sanchez and Sparta are both very strong teams. They should have made it in last year. Both teams have had strong performances in recent tournaments...... but you never know with 11-12 year olds.
Good luck to both
