Which Brackets?

Which Brackets will only have 1 team qualify in week one?
A, B, E, H, I, J and ? K? F?

The better question is which brackets will have two teams qualify for D1 in the first weekend? There will be seven, but which seven?

Here's my take on it. Feel free to give your 2 cents.

D- DT Scott/ D Feeters White
F- LP Owen/ FC Dallas Youth White
G- LP Premiere/ DT Red
H- Sting Donovan/ SRFC
L- Mustangs/ Sting Cuevas
M- LP Redknapp/ FC Dallas Youth Premiere

Bracket C- Sting West found the back of the net a fair bit in the Tut against lesser competition. Andro looked to have had a nice Tut. I think that game decides whether or not this bracket produces 2.

Bracket I- There are a couple questions in this bracket. 1. Spirit North and 2. Fever. Fever looked to be trying to put it all together, and then looks to have had a couple coaching changes (Ramirez/Penn/Phiri/parents???) and looks to have lost some of the core. That being said, not sure Spirit can score enough on them to punch their ticket.

Bracket J is interesting. If GSSC beats Odyssey to win the bracket, I think this bracket produces 2 because Odyssey can put some goals up. Not sure it works the other way around.

Bracket K- Sting Guzman wins the bracket, but can Solar but up enough goals to get in week one? LP St John had a less than stellar Tut. So maybe they can.

The question that I have is people's thoughts on the number of points that will be needed to qualify?

If you secure 20, will that be enough?  Or will there be so many teams at 20 that we look to goal differential up to 8?

Will that drive teams to play for the tie on Sunday?

The Sunday FC Dallas Premier / LP Redknapp game isn't until 11:00.  Will these teams know enough from earlier games that it impacts this game (for example - play for the tie and both get in)?

Soccer Chuck- I agree. I think the goal diff will come into play in more than one bracket. Which is why I wonder about teams like GSSC, Solar, Sting West and Spirit North.

Hence, my thoughts about playing for the tie in the final game.

If you have a team with 18 or 19 points after the first 2 games, they have a vested interest in playing for a tie over risking a loss.  A tie gets you to 22 or 23, which should be enough.

Say 2 teams have 18 and 19 going into the final game.  A loss by either will likely end their D1 hopes, but a tie helps both of them.

So we incentivize teams to run up the score against lesser competition, but go for the tie in their last game.


In analyzing the brackets, my first question was which teams could have less than 20 entering their final game - which #3 or #4 teams in the bracket could score one or give up less than 3 (or even upset).

I'll bite...like them all except Bracket F. FCD White is a very good team but FC Premier I believe is a very good underdog. This will either be an upset or there will not be enough goals scored By FCD to get D-1. Andro is another sleeper pick that is underrated.

Bracket C: DT South & Sting West
Bracket D: DT Scott & Dfeet White
Bracket E: Dfeet Black & Kicks
Bracket G: LP Premier & DT Red (but Gunners could limit points for DT)
Bracket H: Sting Donovan & SRFC (but Tx Spirit Red could limit points for SRFC)
Bracket J: Odyssey & GSSC
Bracket K: Sting Guzman & Solar Chelsea
Bracket L: Sting Cuevas & Mustangs
Bracket M: LP Redknapp & FC Dallas Premier

That is 9 brackets but only 7 spots!

C-DTS and Andro but Andro will not get enough points for D-1. Upset pick of the week.

Easier to say which brackets won't place 2 teams in D-1 or will be a cat fight because 2 and 3 are so close.

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H....All toss ups.

On paper and by design, Groups A-F should only qualify 1 team, while G-M should qualify 2.
But....games are not played on paper...they are played on grass.
