"While the EPA told NBC News in a statement that “more testing needs to be done,” the agency also said it considered artificial turf to be a “state and local decision,” and would not be commissioning further research."

Your federal government hard at work!

Or too many other priorities, like:

The Department of Agriculture spent $2 million to fund an internship program. The program hired one full-time intern.

The government spent $2.6 million to encourage Chinese prostitutes to drink more responsibly.

The National Institutes of Health has given $1.5 million to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to study why “three-quarters” of lesbians in the United States are overweight and why most gay males are not.

During 2012, $25,000 of federal money was spent on a promotional tour for the Alabama Watermelon Queen.

The U.S. government spent $505,000 “to promote specialty hair and beauty products for cats and dogs” last year.

The U.S. government spent $27 million to teach Moroccans how to design and make pottery in 2012.

A total of $10,000 of U.S. taxpayer money was actually used to purchase talking urinal cakes in Michigan.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has spent $300,000 to encourage Americans to eat caviar produced in Idaho.

The National Institute of Health recently gave $666,905 to a group of researchers that is conducting a study on the benefits of watching reruns on television.

The National Institute of Health also spent $592,527 on a study that sought to figure out once and for all why chimpanzees throw poop.

The federal government spent $750,000 on a new soccer field for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay.

Last year, the government spent just under $1 million posting snippets of poetry in zoos around the country.

The U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research spent $300,000 on a study that concluded the first bird on Earth probably had black feathers.

Turf and cancer in soccer players? Empty Re: Turf and cancer in soccer players?

My 05 can't play on some surfaces because of her breathing reactions. She is especially susceptible to field turf. When she works out on it, she has physical reactions. I noticed the link between surface and reaction last winter in indoor, and we are much more vigilant about where she plays now. Just sitting down and stretching starts the reaction. Definitely something to watch. My others never reacted to it. She developed asthmatic symptoms walking in the door.

The report focused on goalies, who roll around in ground up tires for hours each week, and sometimes wind up getting some nasty cancers. Just when I thought the fallout from concussions couldn't possibly get worse.

I hope club/HS soccer doesn't end up being something I really regret having ever involved my kid in.

It would be interesting on the results for football players, as well. Those that get dragged to the ground, etc and the dust particles that come up in their scrapes, cuts and face masks.

I hope that everyone's children are safe from this possibility of harm.

Being a dad of a goalie I do worry about the effect of the fields now. I would think there would be a much higher rate of cancer with football players as they roll around on the field all game. If the numbers are true about goalies and cancer maybe we need to be looking into the incredibly stinky gloves they wear day in and day out. Has anyone stopped to see what they are made of?
