Re: ECNL friendlies this weekend...
Solar ECNL won both games against Sting 99's and Sting 00's. Not sure of the designation (team/coach) for each.
Heard FCD 01 ECNL lost to Solar Elite 00's 2-1. Would've really liked to watch that game.

Re: ECNL friendlies this weekend...
It was a great match to watch. No quarter was asked. None given.
Both teams made fantastic plays , all day long.
It was the best game of the entire weekend.
A real treat to watch.

I agree with that....from an "Overall" perspective. This was the second time I've attended these friendlies and I don't think you can glean much from the event. At the end of the day...your team got to play two games and got some conditioning and heat acclimation training. Younger..... more talented teams play older.....less talented teams and the results are consistent across the board. Actually, an ECNL team playing against an older, less talented D1 team may give you a false sense of accomplishment and lead to a level of security that is not warranted.
I will say the event is well organized, fields were in good shape and the officiating was good. All-in-all...take it for what it is....a tune up that allows you to play different formations, players in different positions and work on your basic fundamentals (passing, positioning, shooting, etc.).

You can learn a lot from this board... many very analytical people here breaking down the numbers and facts. Analysis paralysis.
Glad you enjoyed a another meaningless weekend of ECNL soccer.

What you meant to say you learned...
You learned all "elite" players in the country play ecnl, and any player not in ecnl is not "elite".
You learned that when ecnl teams shed the back end of their roster every year, and replace formerly "elite" players, with formerly non-elite players, the new players become "elite" once they don the patch, and the jettisoned, formerly "elite" players are relegated to status of mere mortal.
You learned 92.666% of ecnl players get full ride scholarships to the top 25 academic powerhouse soccer schools in the country. The other remaining few didn't want or need scholarships. They played ecnl for the love of the game.
You learned ecnl is the greatest collection of female players on planet earth. Topdrawer writer/ecnl marketing told you so.
You learned 98.666% of all national team players were developed by ecnl. The few that weren't, will be soon, once ecnl absorbs their club and adds their names to the PR blasts.
You learned anybody who ever did anything in women's soccer was ecnl connected. Carli Lloyd walked past an ecnl practice in March. She was so inspired, she went out and dominated the 2015 WWC. Topdrawer is putting the finising touches on their article celebrating ecnl's incredible contribution to WWC 2015. It will be a premium only article, but don't worry if you don't subscribe. Ecnl parents will post it all over the internet.
You learned ecnl figured the brand was suffering by the group of teams with 3 GF and 300 GA. Since they can't require teams earn their spots, they realized the name is becoming a misnomer. They petitioned a focus group to change the name to MECNL...M for Mostly. Mainly and Marginally did not poll quite as well in the focus group.
You learned the MECNL is extraordinarily skillful at spining a negative into a positive, as the name change now allows even more players to become MECNL connected. Topdrawer/MECNL marketing interns just announced any player...past, present or future, having any of the league acronym characters in any of their names, can now be claimed as MECNL connected.
You learned Marta's development into a phenom was mostly because of this connection...the MECNL impact spans not only time and space, but continents as well. MECNL's video feed captured Marta saying her own personal s'hero was the most famous MECNL player of all time...Mia Hamm...triple connected.

Playing with and against the better players helps.
Plus more exposure to collegiate coaches is a bonus.
I don't Believe it's a meaningless organization. If the players are good enough, everything will settle out as it should.
Time will tell.

I am hoping Solar, FC Dallas, Sting or Texans can close the gap on Socal this year. Socal has had three different teams win the most prestigious events over the last two years in the 01 age group. We can at least say 01s for one more season....lol.

I don't think there is much of a gap. Watched the 01 ecnl games online and surf is a small cut above everyone else, but I wouldnt put any of the other socal teams as clear favorites over the best of ntx.
Sometimes it comes down to a break here or there, but slammers, hawks, bethesda, gsa, etc are all about the same as the top ntx sides. I agree with most of what middleclass said...there isnt much doubt the top third of ecnl is the most competitive in the country. The country, not the globe. Lol. I don't agree with the "across the board", as the bottom third of ecnl has too many teams that get hammered inside and outside of ecnl for me to make that claim. I do think there is a small gap from top of usys to top of ecnl...mostly depth and next level tactics. Either way, I was just having fun with the tightly wound elitists, since I learned last week there is a whole other stratosphere of elitism beyond ecnl.
