Re: Rolling Hills Field Conditions
I'm curious where exactly the out of town teams are being lodged. Not much in the way of nice hotels in the area. For that matter not much in the way of nice anything in the area.
Although there did seem to be a big nice hotel looking facility right next to the fields. The high barbed wire fence made me wonder what kind of hotel it was, though.

There isn't a "club" host of the Texas event. I don't think there is in any of them, save the PDA event. The league makes the arrangements for the venue, or at least they did in the past.
The Texas event was in San Antonio for a couple of years, then moved it to Frisco. My understanding from the league was that they recognized that, with 5 clubs in NTX, there was a benefit to having the event in NTX, saving a significant amount of travel to San Antonio.
The first year it was in Frisco, the venue costs were expected to be around $30K over what they paid in San Antonio, so all the DFW teams paid an additional $1,000 to help subsidize the event costs. Obviously, each team would have spent far more than 1K to spend 3 or 4 nights in SA, so it was still a good deal.
Last year, I was told that they loved the complex, but that the organization was not the easiest to work with, and there were other costs and issues that they normally wouldn't have to deal with.
I assume that is why it moved to Rolling Hills, and if that doesn't turn out well, I wouldn't be surprised to see it go back to South Texas for a while.

+1
Word is that Ecnl was going to return to Frisco and had an agreement in place to waive the parking fees. When that agreement fell thru, Ecnl moved to Rolling Hills. They will regret that decision. Nothing around that location for food, hotels or anything fun for out of towners to enjoy. Plus the fields are awful.
After a weekend down there, every single person that attends will gladly pay the parking fee at PHP next time.

Re: Rolling Hills Field Conditions
By my count, 120 out of town teams * 20 players/team on average + coaches, parents, chaperones, college coaches, etc... Probably close to 3000 people traveling in. 1000-1500 hotel rooms for 2-3 nights at $100/room. Easily $500,000+ in hotel/restaurant/concession revenue out the window in Frisco. Hmmm...

Also heard that it wasn't FCD that was "difficult" to work with, it was ECNL, specifically the tourney director. Example was that tent locations were mapped out ahead of time (as most complexes or parks would do) and a no staking policy was in place on grass. a FCD bigwig walked up right at the time a 4-foot steel stake was being sledge-hammered right on top of a marked gas line near the concession area. Hope that's the case cuz there probably wouldn't be anymore FCD fields to play on if that stake had been placed.... guess there's 2 sides to every story. I wouldn't want any tourney back if they weren't going to pay attention to park rules and just flat-out ignore them. I can remember being yelled at for trying to put a 6-inch tent stake into the grass out there, let alone a 4-foot stake.

Good point as there are always two sides to every story. Not really placing any blame on FCD or the City. Ecnl made a boneheaded decision in an attempt to save some money and it will reflect very poorly on them this weekend.
