HS playoffs...6-6A dominance Empty HS playoffs...6-6A dominance

Post by tex_gator 25/03/16, 01:05 pm

Wow, 6-6A schools sweep 5-6A, including nationally ranked Byron Nelson going down to a team that had to win on its last night of the regular season to get in the playoffs.

Anyone have any insight into that game? Was Byron short handed (players missed due to DIGC or injury)?

Flower Mound 1, Byron Nelson 0
Allen 3, Keller Central 0
Plano 5, Keller 2
Marcus 3, Timber Creek 0

Could be a case of iron sharpens iron. 6-6A was a bloodbath this year. When was the last time Plano West, McKinney Boyd, and Hebron all missed the playoffs in the same season?

TDS doesn't have a clue about ranks. They had teams in 6-6A ranked all year that didn't make the playoffs. both Marcus and Allen lost to teams not even ranked in Texas

The point here is 6-6A was very strong at least from 1 thru 7. Although a few didn't make playoffs, they could still be ranked nationally. And, IMO would have won or placed if assigned to many other districts.

I agree with this...don't think those teams were weak...just didn't survive an incredibly competitive district, and would have been top in almost any other.

Hebron, Lewisville and Boyd are better than the majority of the girls competing in the entire state during this post season. PW would be too if fully healthy. That district is crazy how competitive (and good) it is. Round 1 was the proof.

that was kinda what I meant. it was assumed Byron might have been missing players in order for then to lose to FM.

I didn't mean 6-6A was weak just that put Byron in 6-6A and their ranking would have been much different and maybe even below FM's. As BW said it was a bloodbath. Boyd at one point was #14 and they finished 7th. 1-4 earned their spots and each came ready for playoffs...

Then I misunderstood your position and agree. Realignment next year will keep several around here very tough (and there will be very good teams sitting home) but it won't be as significant as this year...

I agree with you all that you can't rely on any of these rankings - Top Drawer, Max Preps, DMN, etc. There is very little way to even speculate how one NT team will match up against another at this point in the playoffs. You mention Byron Nelson being knocked out but what about Keller??? I thought they were another super power. Was Plano just lucky that day?

Could be a similar story this week in 5A. We'll see how 9-5A and 10-5A stack up after beating up on each other in Bi-District just like last year.

I'm surprised that Plano beat Keller.
Keller had beaten Southlake and somebody lett that was highly ranked. Just shows that no matter how you are ranked, it's how you play on that day. That day against Plano was not Keller's best day.

Region 2 of 5A proves that the UIL doesn't seed this playoff with 4 of the top 5 in Tx playing each other in only the Region 2 quarterfinals. The survivors then gets a breather in the Regional Semis with the highest possible opponent ranked at 21 followed by the others at 38, 43, and 63. Both 9-5A and 10-5A districts had higher ranked teams sitting out the playoffs.

Similar to 6A, the best games of the playoffs are likely to be played Tuesday night. The Semis and Championship may prove anti-climatic yet.

The Plano game last night was electric! Plano came away with the win after the only goal was scored by our own DD freshman teammate.

The Lady Wildcats had not been to Regional Quarterfinals since 1999 - now entering unchartered waters. Congratulations!

9-5A was strongly represented in the Region 2 finals today; all 4 teams were from Frisco ISD. Wakeland beat Centennial for the boys title. Centennial Girls beat Frisco to move on to State.

Flower Mound was the stronger team through the majority of the game, with very strong possession in the 2nd half including 3 near goals in last minutes of game. PK's usually suggest very close game, but as noted by the commentators for the game televised on TWC, Flower Mound truly the better team last night.

Well done Jags!!

I think I've got this right ...

12 Plano West (Katy)
13 Plano West (Southlake)
14 Hebron (Plano West)
15 Coppell (Highland Pk)
16 Flower Mound (Highland Pk)

Same District 4 of the last 5 years ... Dallas Area 5 of 5 and probably more.

Usually final is Dallas Area v Dallas Area.
