Trophy Hunting?

I noticed the North Texas teams that entered the Austin Labor Day Cup (FCD West, DT West, and Sting Parsons) all opted out of the Premier bracket. All seem to rank somewhere in the top 15 of North Texas clubs.

They opted for the 2nd bracket which consists of mostly 3rd teams from South Texas clubs (and none are among the top 10 South Texas clubs). Wouldn't the top bracket be more appropriate?

Do Dallas clubs typically underseed themselves? Seems like a long way to travel to crush teams and then play each other in the final.

These teams typically play in the highest brackets, so I would certainly be surprised if ALL of them chose to underseed at the same time.  I assumed that the tournament organizers put them there.

or maybe you have some teams that were really good last year that are re-tooling but told the parents something else and are afraid of being exposed with a butt kicking. Makes for a season of pain and suffering for the coach listening to the parents

I don't think so -- except for Sting Parsons, maybe. Texans West and Sting Larry both qualified for Lake Highlands in first weekend, and FCD West cruised through the second weekend.... But, the pressure is certainly on for the Dallas teams to show well.

Trying to figure out the Texas South teams is tough. They all are retooled or completely reformed and have no history to look at. And, Houston in particular looks to be consolidating clubs like crazy. So, these new teams might be better than expected. We'll see. This looks much more interesting than the 07 group in Plano Labor Day, which is mostly the usual suspects, without Solar and these teams playing in Austin.

A larger than normal amount of NTX teams, in all age groups, registered for the Austin tournament.  There's not much to do in Plano after a game.  Who wants to play in Plano on a hot day?  It's like watching KW's kids playing the 20th ranked team.

DT West, Sting LARRY and FCD West are all D1 and should play Premier. Sting Parsons and FCD Central are D3. Parson playing Gold and Tallel playing Silver. Looks like only one team in the bunch playing where they should. The D1 sandbaggers will have a tough season ahead.

Looks like DT West, Parsons and FCD West stuck with the B bracket. Sting Larry stayed with the C. The premier (A) is all top STX teams.

The web page for the Austin tournament clearly says to provide information so the committee can make decisions on placement in the appropriate divisions. Unless you can point to something different, I am convinced the Austin Labor Day Tournament Committee made the decision to keep them out of the premier division, rather than these teams opting out of it....

Brackets have changed a lot. So other clubs are moving their teams to the appropriate level following the initial release of tentative brackets. Is that unusual for NTX?

I don't normally see brackets released ahead of the schedules. It may happen at times, but in my experience, it is not the norm. I didn't realize they were only tentative brackets and subject to revision by the teams. When it said "Tentative bracket release date," I assumed that meant the date was tentative, not the brackets.

As for the brackets, the only change in the top 3 brackets is likely due to the results last weekend -- Houston Dash Woodlands Orange 2 showed they had no business in premier. Did they opt out or did the tournament pull them out?

Opted out as they were mispaced initially. Dash appears to have reshuffled most all their teams. Lonestar, too.

Nah. Roma is better, and the Dash South team that Totti beat in the final (who beat Totti comfortably the day before) I am told was down to 9 players due to injuries for the final and were playing their 2nd game in 4 hours in 100 degree heat.
Totti is not as good as Roma or Dash South, who are probably South Texas's top two 07 teams. The Dallas teams should be playing them. Not B and C teams in the 2nd bracket.
Totti should be in the 2nd bracket. The Albion B team and Lonestar SA team are two in the Premier that shoulf be replaced by the Dallas teams.

Well, looks to me as if the tournament committee is trophy hunting for south texas. The reason they didn't put the NTX teams in the Premier division is because the NTX teams would most likely win at each age level.

The top 10 STX teams in this tournament would be:
1. Houston Dash South 07 PA
2. Lonestar 07 Roma
3. Albion 07 Pre ECNl
4. Lonestar 07 Totti
5. Houston Dash 07 Woodlands PA1
6. Lonestar 07 DeRossi
7. Lonestar 08 Roma
8. Houston Dash South 08 PA
9. Lonestar 07 Red SA

Any of those would give the Dallas teams a decent game. Roma and Dash South would be favored probably against all the Dallas teams, but the Dallas teams would be favored over the rest.
Teams like Albion Elite,  Houston Dash Woodlands PA2, San Antonio United White, Lonestar Black Nth and Lonestar Black Sth arent Gold or Premier level teams. The Dallas teams are 4+ goals better than them. It is a wasted trip for two decent games.
Not sure what the TD is thinking with some of the bracketing.

and why put all 3 NTX teams in same bracket? Could have stayed home and played.

It is crossbracket, so they would only meet in the finals. My concern is they play two teams in pool play everyone will beat by 5+ goals. So the tourney depends on how everyone does against Totti. That's not a very good situation.
Would be much better if they were playing three decently competitive pool games.

Some good teams but wonder why Austin Texans are not there.
