Defenders

Was reading a Top Drawer Soccer blurb on standout players in girls DA games last weekend.  I noticed the only players they listed were players who scored goals (blurb didn't list positions).  Saw same article for boys DA and same thing but listed positions.  Almost all were forwards and mids and listed goals scored.  The few defenders they listed scored goals, plus they listed one keeper who had a shutout.

Then I saw a comment on a thread here that ODP doesn't take many defenders because they are looking for forwards/mids.

Is there no love for defenders?  How are they evaluated by coaches, colleges, etc?  Do they get credit for assists or shutouts? I get that TDS probably needs content and is just reading stats from games, but is that it?  Just looking for some insight.

Just between you and me, good defenders are very difficult to find, there will be less competition during college recruit.
